    I don't have mine yet otherwise I would have replied. :( From what I've read on Autodesk's website the only NVIDIA cards Certified are the Quadro's.

    well, my m11xr2's gt335m is better (doesn't tank in performance as badly when Ambient Occlusion is applied; handles massive subdivs better; hidden line removal doesn't kill performance as badly) than my ancient FireGL V3100 in Softimage 7.5... that's really all I have to offer :( As for other programs, I've heard of Maya issues with nVidia's Optimus - which cannot be disabled.

    Otherwise, I don't really use my m11x for my 3D modeling/ani + Photoshop work, as I have a nice desktop (i7 2600k/GTX580/U2711) for that :) No pro card there, either, however, I didn't build it with my 3D hobby in mine :p

    Hi, I use 3D design programs, I had an m11x for a year and now have an m14x. Both worked just fine, I ran Maya and Houdini on the m11x as well as a number of random, smaller programs (DAZ 3D, etc). 3D Mark tests are a pretty good way to gauge relative performance between cards and machines for 3D design programs. Quadro cards really don't give better performance in most cases, they just unlock some of the more advanced OpenGL capabilities. Also, Nvidia cards are by far preferred over other solutions for 3D design. FWIW my m14x is about 1/3 to 1/2 the overall speed of my desktop, which has a mid level i7 and GTX 470.

    The m14x is Xcm high, Y wide and Z deep.

    The envy 15 is E cm high, F wide and G deep.

    The weight difference between the m14x and envy15 is A kg.

    Hey,

    I'm a games design student, using Maya and all that fun stuff, and bought the m14x to take with me to class - instead of taking a memory stick with me to constantly transfer my work from uni computers to my home desktop. I've had no problems running any of the heavy programs yet - have even had Maya, Photoshop and Unity all running at the same time. The laptop may get a little hot and noisy but hell, that's what I'd expect. As long as the fan is doing its job and the programs are running smoothly then I'm not going to complain. However when it comes to heavy rendering and such I think we may have some troubles, but you should have a desktop to fall back on for the real heavy stuff if that's the case.The laptop just makes all the day-to-day tasks your course requires of you, more convenient.
    I don't think you'll have a problem from what you described.

    Oh and as for the weight.. I carry it in my bag just fine and without any aches or pains. As long as you have a comfortable laptop bag - you'll be absolutely fine. The way I see it is that it's either in a bag or on a desk. Unless you carry it around by hand everywhere then there's no need to worry :) The size is fine, I don't feel it's that bulky and I definitely don't feel like an idiot for taking it out in class.

    Hope this helps.

    this is helpful for comparing gaming performance:
    Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    i'm sure you can just as easily find the sizes of these two laptops one dell website as any of us :) use this website if you need a visual comparison

    I am not a fan of your e-language but I will say that if "da" M14x is anything like the m17x with a 260m, performance in AutoCad 2011 3D is excellent.

    @yashasvi08

    This laptop does not feel bulky at all. First off, I'm now a sophomore in college and I was recently looking for a good laptop to last me for my remaining 3 years. I needed a laptop that was not heavy because I have to walk up a slope to get to some of my classes. I'm not strong either. I've never lifted weights and such and I probably weigh 115 lbs. I'll tell you what, the m14x feels like a breeze to carry. I was very suprised when I picked it up because I was expecting it to be pretty heavy.

    Also...I almost bought an m11x because I was so worried about the weight of the m14x that was listed on alienware's website. I am soo glad I didnt.
