I ordered an m14x with 8gb of ddr3 1600mhz ram. cpu-z says that the ram is running at 667mhz. I haven't touched the bios. do you think that i got the wrong ram?

DDR3 is the third generation of Double Data Rate memory, so your memory is running at 1333MHz (666.5x2). I don't have my M14x yet, but from what I'm reading the RAM won't run at 1600MHz unless you go in the BIOS and overclock it. It would seem your RAM is running as it should be since you haven't touched the BIOS.

under spd though i'm seeing that the max bandwith is 667. i don't think that is true if you have the 2720

I believe that was a CPU-ID glitch. It really is running at the right speed..

You know... it occurs to me that you could just open the box and physically inspect the RAM. It should be marked. That would pretty much settle the question of whether the right stuff was installed and you wouldn't have to jump around sifting through software reports.

Of course -- you could always have malfunctioning RAM -- but I tend to think that would show up in more interesting ways than just a slower bus speed.

Cant post a picture right now, but just checked real quick. I overclocked in bios to 1600mhz, but my CPU-ID/Z is locked at 800mhz.

Cant really confirm, it was just in another thread with the same issue from the past..

For DDR you double the mhz that are displayed under the frequency

you have to press enter on the performance options (i was confused too as it just looks like a header above other enable/disable switches, read the descriptions on the side as you scroll down the settings)
