so my Jerk of a friend bought his 9 year old son an Alienware M14X (that is why he is a jerk of a friend!) this i can probably attribute to the son seeing my own M14 and kinda wanted to have one i guess.

now the problem, the kid being just 9 years old just made it a hobby to change log-in passwords every time he used his computer. he probably was bored! and now he can't remember any of the passwords he has put in.

so my jerk friend thought i'd be able to help which i thought i'd be able to, thinking it was just the windows log-in password that he got locked-out from.

after checking the laptop out, turns out its asking for the password right after POST. whenever i hit F8 or F11 its prompts me for a password (i did not think the kid was that bored that he figured out how to enable BIOS passwords!).

any help would be appreciated as i am left with no choice of solutions but to change the hard-drive but i guess that too would not work since looks like PASSWORD protect is now BIOS based.

    thank you in advance.

If he can't remember the password then there's two things we can try.
I cannot guarantee this first option will work, however it is worth the try:
*Power Drain the unit and then remove the CMOS Battery for at least a day. Put the computer back together and then try and power it on and see if we get anywhere from there.
    *Replace the motherboard.

this is the OPTION I fear the most. any link to a possible replacement and pricing maybe so my JERK OF A FRIEND would have an idea how much money he has wasted? thanks

As far as replacements and such - go for Ztronics.com or Parts-people.com
They usually have a stock of our old models, and they are also our most trusted third parties.
