ok guys i have a squeaking new aw14. bummer. :( just on the left side. it may not sound like much on the vid but it is pretty noticeable when opening the lid. it only happens when opening too. at first i thought something was catching on the back when opening but there is nothing there. is this squeaking normal?

That do not sound squeaky. I think it sounds worst than a squeak. The sound is like when a hinge is about to break like the plastic or metal is grinding/bending sort of sound.

ok so definitely a problem then?

dell are closed here in the uk until tomorrow morning so thought i'd see what others think here while I wait for them to open. gutted really. was so looking forward to getting this and having a decent play around but the faulty hinges are putting a stop to that for now. also annoying is that it is a external fault that I thought would have been picked up during the production process

Hinges again? Sorry to hear about this problem. Definitely contact Dell. You paid for top quality, you should get it.

Yeah, that's not a squeak. Call Dell and show them that video.

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE let this not be a another M11x hinge fiasco. Mine, knock on softtouch, are a little stiff but otherwise seem solid. When I open mine, the base is lifted off the table. Was hoping they'd have worn in a bit already.

i phoned dell this morning. i'm returning it for a refund. the whole getting all excited about ordering a new aw 14, spending £1200 getting more excited waiting for it to arrive, unpacking and then getting a faulty unit left quite a bitter taste i'm afraid. definately don't want some repair guy taking a brand new unit apart and don't really want to chance a replacement unit. the hunt goes on for a new lappy :)

We haven't had any reports of this, it must be an isolated issue.

thanks for the reply luis. 48hrs in and my initial upset the other day has now levelled off somewhat. i'm still returning the faulty unit for a refund. however, the aw14 is such a beautiful machine in both looks and all the materials used. not only that but for me, nothing else on the market here in the uk comes close. so i'm going to place a new order for the same item :)

i really hope it is as you say an isolated issue. fingers crossed this time please everyone
