Up until a few days ago my aw 14 ran smooth as butter with maxed settings in WoW. But now no matter the driver, forcing the nvidia through the control panel, manually adding games, or even fn + f5 restart has me sitting at TERRIBLE fps. Even set the game to low and it gave me maybe 3-5 FPS boost. Also when I remove the driver and restart I get a BSOD which makes me think that I may have a faulty GPU. Logs are showing up clean, device manage is showing up clean as well as nvidia and intel.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Thinking I may call dell but I really DO NOT want some tech puting his/her grubby little hands on my rig.

Ok. I have literally tried every driver and setting I can and still my fps is TERRIBLE. I guess its time to talk to dell and see about them sending me parts.

You've got the computer plugged in, right? You can't game on battery.

If you do, try running the system diagnostics and see if it recognizes that the GPU is faulty. You can do so through boot options (F12). Alienware Technical Support will ask you to do this anyway.

It does seem like the card is faulty. Send us an e-mail to [email protected] with your service tag and we'll take care of it.

Wait people actually game on battery??? Yes I ran the diagnostic and everything was fine hence why I posted here.

Does dell send parts to people to install themselves like lenovo? Im about 99% sure the gpu isnt coming on at all and will do another round of testibg and send the email.

As of now I've successfully restored to a day where I know it was working as I took gaming footage and have loaded and reloaded drivers several times. Will run my last tests this afternoon.

Depends on many things, we usually don't on motherboards (this is the part that needs to be changed since the GPU is embedded on the mobo).

Try and uncheck the min and max fps on your wow video settings, or putting the slider all the way to max for both min/max.

I do now too after the tech they sent to my house twice killed two notebooks of mine. They handle your notebook so careless and not like they should and they will do this right in front of you. I am not sure if he meant to say it out loud but after he cut one of my wireless antenna he said “I don’t care! I will stop working now and just go home. I have laundry to wash”. Even though I know he killed my notebook he always blamed my notebook being dead on a motherboard defect. The whole time he was working on my notebook he gave me the impression that he did not even want to work on my notebook and kept saying he think I should just send it in to the depot for repair. Why did he even come in the first place if he did not want to work on my notebook?

So, I don’t blame when you say you don’t want someone else to work on your computer.

Another symptom I forgot to mention and supports the motherboard being the culprit is that sometimes in BIOS or even startup the keyboard is completely unresponsive or some keys dont work at all. Imaging drives right now and about to talk to dell.

Yeah my settings are max FPS.

COD Ghosts went from smooth as butter at high settings to unplayable in lowest/safemode.

Yeah this is one of the reasons why I prefer to do my own work. Im an experienced and certified IT guy with about 20 years of system building experience add in that Im OCD as heck about my computers and youll see why I dont want people working on the device I make my living on. Lenovo always sent me out parts although it was rare that I needed a part. I guess I got spoiled from them. I will ask if I can do the repair and if not Ill send it back begrudgingly.

I game all the time on battery with my machine! Even when I owned an M14x I was gaming on battery. I just do nto expect near the performance. In fact, I normally set laptop at power saver mode and set the Nvidia graphic to go integrated on everything. With WOW, doing that I get 60+ FPS on fair settings. The game is playable and I can play it for 3 hours on battery. But, that is my current. I came to this forum because I am looking at getting a smaller computer again!

Besides, how do you game while taking a crap! You gotta be on battery...

Have you tried setting it to Discrete mode disable the Intel Graphics and run totally off the Nvidia?

You mean pressing fn + f5 and rebooting? Yeah several times and no difference whatsoever. Finally have time to re-visit this issues and Ill be loading a pure dell driver again and trying a few things then sending an email to the above address to get it fixed. Ill have to say I REALLY miss being able to enter BIOS and just switch it manually and not have to worry about if a function modifier keystroke is working when there is no notification or confirmation when its pressed.... Really hazy operation TBH and leaves alot of doubt.

So removed and installed dell intel and nvidia drivers 3 times and still no good. Press fn + f5 and reboot to ultra low res and a dx9 error/warning. Doing it again got my high resolution settings back but 20 or less fps on much lower settings then usual. Email sent to dell.
