Hi, just received my M14x today - but no X-Fi software is installed and my serial number doesn't work in the Dell Support site (nor does the automated serial # finder software), plus there's no disc.

Kind of a poor deal. Pay $20...get nothing. At best I have to wait or talk to support.

Any way to resolve this or just wait?

For future reference, where did you go to find the X-Fi software?

I'm embarrassed to say - in the Start Menu under Programs and under "Creative" - duh! I was just confused because I thought the audio would show up as X-Fi and not Realtek High Definition Audio.

It's literally just software that runs on top of the Realtek drivers. I thought it'd at least be special drivers or something that replace the Realtek. I guess we'll see how things perform. Still installing/updating stuff...

Is there any way to get this software afterwards?

But OP, I understand it was installed, but did you get the CD? There SUPPOSE to give you a CD.

I recieved my m14x with the same software, but it most surely came with the Soundblaster Software as well (completely separate CD than the resource or Windows 7 OEM cd)

So I would definitely make a note of that because of you reformat you won't have the original disc to re-install....

I got a CD with mine also. I am sure it can be installed afterwards as a lot of motherboards that have realtek chips support the features offered in the software. I will say that the balancing effects the software provides are a marked improvement over the stock realtek sound.

What if you didn't buy it to begin with, can you still purchase it afterwards?
Can't find anything about it on dell or creative website... :-(
