Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing.Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer

    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred

    Any ideas ?

I have just received it as a replacement for the other one and it was working fine and then i added the ssd and the hhd/optical bay. Went really well without any hitches i even manged to swap out the optical drive without disconnecting the rybon cable from the motherboard ( just disconnected it from the optical drive )

worked fine a few times then i get this message all the time.

    any advise ?

    Thanks

The error message is pretty obvious "Please remove optical drive or USB devices blah blah blah"

It suggests some incompatibility issue with the 2nd hdd caddy. I got it as well, but doesnt seem to trouble actual usage at all.

it is having an input output error.... one of the drives is failing to mount/ read and write properly....

either it is failing or the caddy is faulty.......

return unit to standard config and test.

wait, why would the 2nd HDD with the caddy affect your windows from booting ???

Assuming you have windows on the vertex 3 SSD, if anything happened to the 2nd hard drive, it shouldn't have any effect on windows booting

So Titan you arent getting this error using the same caddy? Guess I will exchange a different one then :)

I was thinking the same thing, but since the error message itself suggests me to remove optical drive or any usb device - they are nothing to do with booting either! IMO it is definitely something to do with the caddy

Im using the caddy I have posted in my guide.. the Fenvi one and I have not had any issues what so ever.

I'm also very specific on how I install all my drivers and programs so I don't ever really encounter errors. O_O

I've had no trouble with my OCZ Vertex 2E 240GB SSD which I installed yesterday morning. I avoided installing the freefall sensor driver and the Intel Rapid Storage driver. Giving a healthy 7.8 out of 7.9 WEI rating for the hard disk and a nice transfer rate average of 230-240MB/sec for HD Tune benchmark with a 0.1ms access time.

    Hi Paddon,

Up till a few weeks ago, I experienced the same problem as you with my Intel 510 SSD. It will boot up with the same error after I clean install Win 7 OS on the SSD. As you have discovered, rebooting a few more times (the fan working very hard is a sign) will eventually get the SSD to boot. After which, restarting the laptop will be fine without the same error at boot up. But leaving it off for more than 10mins will get you the same problem at the next start up.

As you said, I also suspected that my SSD is spoilt but after testing the SSD on another desktop, it booted up properly and hence it lead me to conclude that the problem was probably with the m14x. I called Dell and got them to replace my motherboard after much haggling, though they insisted that my SSD is the problem.

After replacing my motherboard, the only other thing that was changed was setting harddisk as the first boot device in the BIOs. And miraculously, it booted up successfully with the SSD into Windows. After repeated booting up tests after extended periods of rest, my m14x is booting up without errors after the motherboard replacement.

I would suggest that you try setting the HDD as the first boot device first. If that still fails, you should call up Dell and get them to replace the motherboard for you again. Hope this helps you avoid the sleepless nights and hair loss I suffered.

You are not alone in this, my friend.

Hi WYLinD It is really great that you solved your problem cus I am having exactly the same problem, the windows 7 won’t boot up from my SSD 510 several times before it finally booted, then the windows working fine for the rest of the day. After a night, the same problem repeated again. What worse, I suspected my SSD first and replace three SSDs from OCz to Intel, and two weeks until I realized it could well be the problem of my mother board! I contacted many times with the Dell tech support. They are totally crap! Saying they only responsible for their hard driver shipped with machine and they insist their mother board is fine. I was so sick contacting repeatedly with them and can’t have the problem solved! They simply refused to replace the mother board. How did you manage to replace yours? I would rather return my M14X but I’ve passed the return period. Any guide would be appreciated!
Could anyone experiencing the same problem contact dell and hopefully they will have the faulty mother board replaced for everyone with no hassle!
My advice, STAY AWAY FROM M14X until every thing clear! Sadly I can’t obviously, cus I’vepassed the return window.
Be aware of the Faulty mother board, even you don’t experience such with your HDD! I’m sure there will be a lot in the future when the price of SSD cut down!
