Hi, I want to install windows XP on dual boot with W7, I tried to install XP but it don't recognize my HDD, probably because of sata drivers, do you have a link to SATA drivers so I can make a custom ISO of windows XP?
Thanks in advance, also if you have some link to windows XP drivers for M14x it would be great!

maybe try vmware? It emulates a virtual pc on which you can install windows xp, obviously it isnt as fast as a real windows intallation but i think with quadcore it should be sufficient!

the real question here is: What do you want do use xp for?

Or just use Windows Virtual PC to run Windows XP Mode, best of all, it is legally free for those who has a genuine Windows.

Give me a way to play Star Wars Episode 1 Racer and other old games on Windows 7 then (other than N64 emulator).
Anyway I found the Sata drivers, now its installing, I need drivers for XP now.
And you cant play games on VM, at least for Star Wars it doesnt work.

I usually use the built in compatibility mode for old games. Right click on the EXE and its under Properties. Windows claims its Pro version only but I have HP and use it all the time and it works.

As I guess, and I agree, because sometime even with the compatibility mode is select (Refer to Gearsguy's post), on some older game it still not work, so the solution is to dual boot it.

Talking about Windows XP, have you try the 32 bit of Windows 7 instead? Because my brother's laptop has the 32 bit install, and most of the older game (incl the 16bit) are all working fine with the 32bit, and not even have to use the compatibility mode, just install and run the game.

Thanks DjId10t for the links I'll try that!
@CGSDR do you know where I can find the 32bit drivers for the m14x because on dell website only 64bit drivers are available :/
EDIT: @CGSDR can you brother test if Star Wars Pod Racer work on W7 32bit? :q

I'll have a look when I have time, oh btw, I wonder where I can get that game either free, legally free? Because that one seem to be very old though, and dont want to spend money on such an old game.

I tried to launch it with VMWare, the game launch but even in menus there is a tons of graphical bugs and then when the race starts I only see the 3 2 1 then nothing :/
For the game I don't think you can get it legally free, it's like when you play a game on emulator you are supposed to own the original game...
For XP when I tried to install it, it didn't work because of SATA drivers, so I found them I made a custom ISO for XP but after the 1st reboot (after windows copied the files) there was an error (I don't remember what but something like the OS can't be read in this hard drive or something like that), I tried to reinstall, I try to completely remove all partitions on my hard drive and only install XP, I tried to change my hard drive mode from AHCI to ATA, nothing works, always that error.
For you thread mimarsinan you said: "This means that I have actually obtained XP drivers for every component of the system!" but in your archive I can only see drivers for card reader, audio, USB3 and smart battery (?) no graphical drivers?

Intel drivers work perfectly for XP and the integrated GPU on the CPU IS actually decent - it got 4.5k in 3dm06 which is VERY impressive; this could be though because I got the most powerful mobile CPU in there. Just download the latest stock drivers for the latest Intel mobile chipset and the latest Intel mobile graphics; they work as-is.

VMware is pretty good in virtualization and was the first to virtualize 3D and Aero; but you may run into issues like the above. There's no beating the real thing; although in this case you'll be stuck with the Intel integrated GPU so that may be again a little underwhelming.

If in the text mode portion of the install, Windows correctly detected your hard disks; then the issue you are experiencing is NOT related to the SATA issue. Was the error message something about missing catalogs or catalog signatures or the like? This is caused by defective installation media or bad burn settings (try disc-at-once instead of track-at-once burn mode).

If even in ATA you are getting the same error, this only adds more strength to my conclusion above.

Note that if you are having trouble making a custom XP ISO, just install in ATA mode and use my .REG file together with the .SYS file to convert your system to AHCI mode after installation has been completed. This is much easier to do.
