Recently I picked up a lightly used m14x r2 that had Windows 8 installed as the main operating system - is there anything I should be wary of when downgrading to Windows 7, I would be using a retail disc that did not have anything bundled in with it, or is the process painless? Thanks.

You may encounter issues with the fastboot or safeboot function in the BIOS, before you do it make sure you disable that. It should be painless besides that.
