Hi everyone, did dual boot, Win7+Win8 all went fine, Win8 with its super fast load times (really!!!), nice and useful interface.
Loaded drivers (chipset, USB3) and saw that Win8 has its own and fresh in-built IGP driver (Dec 2011). Next thing was to install Nvidia Driver and try some games.

I installed this Nvidia driver without a problem Graphics Driver - Verde 295.73 Driver - GeForce
for Win8 BUT after clicking on Nvidia control panel the Win8 system crashed. I restarted a few times, and there were no more Win8 boots possible at all, I even tried Win8 in-built repair. After Trying to boot into Win8, right after Bios post, all I could see was a white one-second flash of my screen then my screen went dark with a mouse cursor which I could move around the black screen lol...that was it. Soooo I guess I am not the only one here with similar experience.

For installing Win8, I followed the links below, installed from USB 3 stick through USB 3 port (unzipped the Win8 image on the stick and booted from it) and installed on 25Gig partition on my SSD, hoping my Win7 start-up issues would be gone (or at least I get a work-around). Yes, no more start-up issues with Win8 until this Nvidia fiasco. I enjoyed Win8 for two hours lol

    Anyone more successful?

Oh, after this fiasco I deleted the 25 Gig partition, and extended my SSD volume to previous (full) capacity without a problem. And Win7 is working as it worked before.

i just made a VMWare virtual machine of Windows 8 with 16Gb HD, 1Gb RAM annd works really nice. Actually the virtual machine works with the nvidia card and all graphics things works flawless. The only things doesn't work is all the live id services because my account is from a country without support.

Edit: Here is a video made it for me of the virtual machine running Pinball FX2.

Ok, thanks for replies guys, but let me ask again. Has anyone successfully installed newest Nvidia driver on Win8 and it actually worked? Like games etc...

Sorry if I was not clear enough. And yes, without the Nvidia driver I had no issues whatsoever.

    Any answers are appreciated.

p.s. On Win7 the same driver works no problems.

I had same issue. Did a clean install and then made several restore checkpoints. Found out it would crash when I clicked on the 3d settings in Nvidia control panel. I found if I click on set PhysX Configuration it lets me set my GeForce as default. Now if it crashes when I click on 3d it atleast reboots correctly. Unfortunately I can't play Battlefield 3. Keeps using the integrated card and I can't remember where to change it.

Currently the CP does not have Optimus support with the latest Nvidia drivers. Either run W8 with Intel or stick with W7 for Nvidia is the only option til Nvidia offers a W8 driver. This is information pulled from Windows - Microsoft Answers. You can see for yourself that you are not alone with the Optimus problem.

I personal love W8 but with ME3 jsut comign out I had to jump back to W7 til Nvidia steps their game up... or does what ATI did and releases Alpha drivers that work some of the time haha.

    Anyway hope this helped some.

I have install the nivdia card and got mass effect 3 working haven't tried other games. Here the Steps

1.Downgrade your Intel HD 3000 Graphic (Go to M14x dells drivers and download and install your Intel HD 3000 from there)

2.After you have downgrade your HD 3000 driver, u'll have both on tray and context menu "Graphic Properties", clicking it wont open the Intel control center, but will bring you new box asking you to download and install .NET Framework 3.5..just download and install it and restart.

3.Install latest Nvidia 295.73 driver, let is finish, and restart, now u'll have both Nvidia and Intel Control Center on tray and context menu, dont click Nvidia Control panel yet, restart again... Everything should be working

I create a new virtual machine with VMWare Workstation 8 with 16Gb HD, 1Gb RAM (Workstation 8 doesnt have Windows 8 as guest OS but you can use Windows 7 insetad). I use the Windows 8 CP ISO downloaded from Microsoft to install the guest os in the virtual machine.

Edit: Run the virtual machine with vmware player and add vmware player to the nvidia whitelist to use the dedicated card with the virtual machine.

so white listing the vmware player will make the ISO you've created see the NVIDIA chipset? what about the emulated vmware display drivers?

if you could clear this up for me it would work well also with my mint linux installation + nvidia drivers

I have win8 installed on my desktop and will be trying out Rage on it tomorrow. Specs: AMD Athlon X2 5400+, 6GB RAM, Nvidia GTS 250 - latest drivers installed.

Win8 is ok...I'm still trying to get used to the Metro UI. At least boot time is under 30seconds with a 7200rpm HDD.

yes, the last version of VMWare workstation can see and use the nvidia chipset. The display driver used by vmware is the vmware built in (the device manager in windows 8 shows vmware display driver but works with the nvidia card because if you don't add the vmware player to the whitelist, pinbalfx2 doesn't work properly). I read this in some webpage. Ill will upload some pictures later at night.

    Edit: Found the web http://askubuntu.com/questions/80601/how-to-enable-3d-acceleration-under-vmware-workstation-8

Steam works just fine (Rage, in particular). Nvidia drivers haven't given me any problems, yet.

Anyone test the new Nvidia 296.10 drivers yet? Wondering if they fix the restart to blank screen issue. If so I will be installing W8 once more =p

Don't worry, even if you don't get it working you are not missing anything. Trust me I tried it out, huge waste of time and bandwidth. Basically your desktop screen is now just an app in metro. It's just a lot of extra bloat that they have to include so the touch screen experience is good. Most normal sane desktop users will just use the desktop app which makes it look just like windows 7 and metro will just sit there and take up resources and be useless.

Maybe metro will be nice for new people just learning the PC, and they can keep all there programs right on the metro screen and click what they need. I could see it being newbie friendly the same way the ios app store is newbie friendly.

I am very impressed with windows 8 touch capabilities and its ability to run on arm. I have a feeling this new OS will really help push higher adoption of windows mobile. But for desktops?? Stick with windows 7 kids, you'll be doing just fine.

I bit the bullet and dual booted Win 7 and Win 8, i'm on an SSD and I thought Win 7 was a fast boot up, my god Win 8 is so much faster.

I really do like Windows 8, I think once released it's going to be a great OS, Windows 7 is still my ultimate choice at the moment but I will be moving to Win 8 when it comes out. If you are a shortcut master like myself, Win 8 is extremely great for this sort of thing.

people were giving Windows 7 crap before it came out, and now everyone praise's it, it'll be the same with 8...
