Also...if you intend to try this out and dual boot between Windows 7 & 8....Simply follow the following steps

1.Burn the Iso on a DVD
2.Create a Data Partition(D: ) where you would want to install Win 8 Dev Edition * Ensure this is not the partition where you have Windows 7 ..in my case its C:
3.Restart Computer and Boot from DVD
4.After booting into Win 8 Setup...choose english language and accept terms of condition
5.On installation method selection ...do not select upgrade..instead go for custom installation and choose d: partiion
6.Once installation is finsihed it will say windows developer preview....and after that loads it gives you the dual boot screen...dont get freaked out :)

Also Please carry this out at your own risk & back up your data before you mess around...and finally good luck

Thanks ....+Rep if you like :D

I am typing this from Windows 8. I have come here to download all of the Alienware software for a clean build. I'll report back on what doesn't work, if anything. all I can say right now is that while I'm not sure I like it, the transitions work beautifully on the laptop with the Win8 drivers.

Yes it does....the bootloader dosent give any issues...except it make the process of booting into windows 7 slower...since once the bootloader loads ...and you click on win7 ..it restarts to boot win7

Well, I can't recommend installing it. It's a basket case on the M14X. You can't install nVidia drivers without the whole thing going mental. As an OS it shows promise, but it's very much the alpha release.

Ok... I'm on the Alienware M17x R3 with the 1.5tb raid. I've partitioned out 100 gb of space, formatted it, and rebooted off of the Win 8 DVD. I installed the windows 8 OS, and rebooted. I chose my default OS (win 7), and then chose to boot into Win8. After a few minutes it popped up a message saying windows could not be configured on the current hardware.

    Any thoughts?

Windows 8 Developer Preview (64bit) on VMware 8 Workstation gives me a BSOD on installation (DPC Watchdog Violation) so scratch that one. If anybody has the same issue and gets a work-around please let me know. I've managed to install the 32bit version okay so perhaps it's a driver issue with the 64bit install.

Intel Wireless Display no longer works for me. Here's what happened:

WiDi requires Intel My Wifi Technology (MWT) to be enabled.

Intel MWT doesn't work for WiFi 6205 drivers above v3.5.

Win8 automatically installs v4.0.2 which in turn breaks MWT.

Even if I try un-installing the WiFi drivers, it will not roll back to v3.5. Dell's installation file doesn't even run, and MWT can't detect the device.

Conclusion - I've returned to a slimmed down version of Win7 which boots around the same speed and WiDi works with Dell drivers. Using Win8 on my desktop instead.

Started installing some drivers from the cd and the whole thing went haywire after installing intel hd graphics. It says optimus needs this to be installed prior to installing the nvidia drivers. I realize now that intel hd trap his is already installed and please PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong lol. Going to bed gonna get a fresh start tomorrow and see what I can do and what works and won't work :)

Installed it, then it crashed later that same day (because I was overclocking), startup repair couldn't fix the OS. Oh well, wasn't enjoying it anyway.

I put it on my m11xr2 on a spare SSD I had laying around (it had a 500gb HD normally) and so far it works great. Although the new interface is kind of annoying without having a touchscreen to use it with.

The new Explorer ribbon is kind of cool but most of it seems like a reskinned Win7 so not really sure how much benefit a Win7 user would get from switching. If you were on XP or Vista and jump to 8 that might be worthwhile but otherwise, save the dough for Win9.
