Since ssd drives are finally around 150 or less for a decent 120gb ssd, I want to know who here has used that amount of space and hasn't had a problem with space. I know the formatted capacity is like 110-115 gb. After Os installation, drivers, basic programs, 10gb for music files and photos, how much would you think I would have left for games?
P.S. I don't want to switch out the optical drive for a hdd caddy, so I'm contemplating whether to not it would be worth it. I don't have my m14x on me since I'm on vacation and I don't remember how much hdd space i've used and what amount in each section.
Thanks in advance and happy new year.

I have 64.4GB free out of my 111GB on my intel 320.

I have one game installed, whole microsoft office suite, visual studio and a bunch of other programs.

If you're not wanting to switch out the optical drive I would personally buy a higher capacity SSD, as you do not want to fill the SSD, it's preferred to leave some free space on it.

If price is the main issue that 256gb OCZ vertex 2 that has the special nbr.com deal and add on the top of the page looks like an awesome deal.

Yeah thanks. Took a look at my m14x today, and did some clean up with games and programs i never use. I ended up with 97 gigs with crysis 2, skyrim, bfbc2, and bf3 installed, along with 15 gigs for my personal files. I guess that leaves me with 13-15 gigs left assuming i get around 110 formatted space on the ssd. I don't think computing knowing you have to use drive space strictly is any way to use a computer.

I get away with a 64gb ssd by keeping the games that I rarely play on an external drive that I copy over to my ssd. For me, the speed is well worth the trouble (I can't stand using computers without a ssd). I don't have any issues with the 128gb drive in my desktop, but I guess that's because I keep all my personal data on my mirrored raid...

That's actually not a bad idea and I guess the 500gb hdd can be converted via a external enclosure to a usb drive. I agree with you, after using my macbook air it spoiled me and I hate hard drives now. I will consider that, but it's just that 120 is just a little too short for me. Like 160gb, just a few more gigs more than 120, would be perfect. I'll just wait for one that cheap. But new egg has a 120gb ssd for 125 now.

120gb ssd here! At the moment I have 32gb space left. But I have Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City and LA: Noire installed for about 30gb. All my other games, movies and music I keep on my 750GB HDD. Whenever I feel like playing another game I just move them to my steam or origins folder and they are ready to play in less than 2 minutes.

EDIT: Forgot I got SW:TOR installed, not the smallest game either with almost 20gb :p
