So I noticed that there is a white spot on the screen of my m14x r2. It is visible in every color except black. I'm not sure what this is, could be a dead pixel or some dust stuck in between? I called alienware tech support and they're sending a technician to replace the screen. Do you think this is a good idea? The only reason I ask is because I have 6 months of warranty left and it would suck if he messes something up even more, or this replacement causes an even bigger problem after 6 months. The main reason I wanted to get this fixed is because I'm planning on selling this laptop. I don't want to make the buyer feel like a sold a defective product to him.

Here are some photos. They don't really do it much justice, it's a lot brighter in person.

I just had my LCD replaced by a Dell technician. He came to my house and did the repair in under an hour. If Dell offers to replace it then I recommend you accept the offer :)

Let us know how it goes.

Cool. The tech is gonna come over tomorrow to replace the screen :)
I'm just wondering, I have a lot of dust in my house, so what cause any problems if the dust goes inside the screen or something?

It won't go inside. If you don't clean your laptop regularly, you can actually try and dust it off a bit once the tech disassembles the laptop.

Great! Unfortunately the tech brought the wrong color lid (black instead of nebula red) so I gotta wait until next week :(

So the tech came over and replaced the screen. The white spot is not showing up, so that's good. However, I noticed that the paint on the lid seems to be rough. I remember it being a lot smoother on my old screen. I'm just wondering if this is all in my head, or if they forgot to sand it or something to make it smoother.

That's soo weird.. I got my back cover replaced a few weeks ago and I had the exact same doubt.. It seems to me as it is a bit rougher than it used to be.

Yes it is strange. I'm wondering, are these the same parts that are used to manufacture the actual alienware computers? Also did you get the stealth black or nebula red? Mine is quite noticeable since it's nebula red.

I had the same thing - it's dust in between then front plastic and the LCD itself, gets in there during manufacturing. Had the screen replaced twice, all three screens had it - we settled on one that had the speck closest to the edge of the screen, rather than having me ship my laptop out.
