    Hi,
I have an m14x r1. It has been working fine up until recently. It now boots and loads the desktop and explorer.exe but then goes to a completely white screen with a loading sign. I can ctrl + alt + del and log out but re loging in/rebooting etc has the dame problem. Task manager never appears if I select that.

If I leave it for a while I get a message saying I need to pay money to unblock my computer or something?

    It boots in safe mode.

Please help. I'm leaving tomorrow so I'll try what ever is suggested until then and when I get back next week.

EDIT: Just talked to my brother who said it sounded like the metro police virus? If anyone has tips on how to get rid of it that'd be great. I realise now that it has little to do with Alienware but I'm gonna leave the post here as you people give great feedback.

    Thanks,
    crZyhamSter

Definitely a virus, you'll need to download an Anti-Malware program to get rid of it.

If you are able to get safe mode with networking to work, download malwarebytes from Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer. It may be unsafe to use any of your internet browsers because the virus may alter some of your browser settings so you'll just be redirected to advertising sites, and more viruses may try to install on your computer. If this is the case, get access to a different computer and download it, put it on a USB stick and install it in safe mode.

If you've noticed a decline in your system performance, you may have a lot of viruses embedded in your system that may be very difficult to remove, reformatting would be the best solution.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Ukash virus - FixPCYourself

This is the virus you have, most likely, the link gives a step by step description on how to remove it.

You can also try manually ending processes that you don't need in the task manager (ctrl, alt delete) in the processes tab, when you normally boot up, or go into msconfig (type this into the search bar) and uncheck everything that you don't need or looks non-essential in the startup tab. You can also go into safe mode and try to do system restore, to an earlier date where your PC worked and then you can download anti-malware.

Either way you need to get some anti-virus\malware software.
