When did Alienware STOP making the m15 and start the m14?

    Hi All,

New member here....I've been reading the forums for about a month now and finally joined yesterday....

I'm looking at getting a M14X from Alienware. My question is I recently found the outlet laptops on the Alienware/Dell website and found you can get a reburbished M15 on there. I have never really been a fan of refurbished items (especially electronics) but I'm really thinking about a refurb m15 right now.

I owned an Alienware desktop back in 2001ish (way before the Dell days) and it was a great pc. Since I found great luck (and way better prices) with Digital storm desktops. They make laptops too, but I'm pretty adimate on getting a laptop w/light up keyboard. Aliens are a few hundred bucks more and I figure "IF" I get rid of it after a year or two to upgrade the Alien might be better to sell.

I currently have a Dell XPS 1640 which is a good laptop but really want to sell that and get an Alienware.

I guess my questions are is the M15 really any better than the M14s other than screen size? I would really prefer the 15" resolution of 1980x1080.

thanks for any advise or help from anyone here.

I also wondering on why Alienware chose to replace M14x with M15x series too, because I bought M14x is because of the M15x is longer support/exist.

Same here, I think I'll love my M14x but I'd rather wanted a new M15x

they d/c it because the new M17x was poised to compete with the G73JH making it a single GPU laptop. Since the difference b/t the M15x and M17x would be too little, there would be little merit in buying an M17x when there's an M15x out, so they replaced it with the M14x to distinguish the "levels" of performance more clearly.

m17x r3 was meant to replace the "high end" m15x configs, while the m14x was meant to replace the "low end" configs.

IRRC the m15x and m17x r3 are nearly identical in size...

Dell has a full 1year warranty on all of their outlet things, I think the upgrade warranties are a little more, but laptops are quite a bit cheaper because of the weekly 15%+ off codes

I might switch to M17x if this M14x serve me a good laptop for the next 1-2 years, as now I'm bit low on budget :D

The M15x was killed off in mid May, and if I recall the M14x began being offered a few weeks before the M15x's death.

I migrated from the 15 to the 14, and I can say that I'm much happier in general. In at least a few instances, my CPU felt like it was holding me back. The extra 266Mhz (and increased efficiency, etc) of the 2630QM vs my M15x's 720QM makes everything feel much faster. I haven't seen too much an impact on the 555m versus the 460m, at least not after overclocking the 555m. Sure, the graphics are still a bit weaker, but overall the system feels more balanced in the power it puts out.

That's what I figured, but was hoping & figured someone had migrated from the 15 to 14 model and some of the upgrades or evolution of the configuration too.

I was going to get a macbook, but really want something that can play some games too. But I'm not too keen on the mac os to be honest. I am also looking at a Digital Storm laptop, it's a little cheaper for about the same thing but I'd really (really) like a light up keyboard.

I wonder why you can't get a Blueray drive on the M14?

and yes macs are terrible at gaming...... buddy has a 2010 macbook pro with a 335m was almost 3 grand and it games horribly

also the 13" macbook pros with the intel 3000 (we all know how that handles games with our intel 3000)

    macs are not for gaming!
