I'm thinking the 256 m5m. What is the difference between the plexor brand m5m and the lite on m5m. Please and thank you :) any other msata suggestions?

Plextor has their own firmware and it is tweaked really well. Lite-on is a good company to. Just have read many reviews on Plextors version, I own two of them one in my 14 and one in my 18. Really fast and they are MLC. The samsung pm841's are tlc. I dont think no other msata drives out from intel, data, mushkin are performing near as fast as the Plextor. Plus the m5m is a marvell controller, pretty sure the intel and others are sand force for the most part. Take all this with grain of salt, ford vs chevy, EXCEPT the MLC vs TLC. it is possible tlc will still last longer than you keep your laptop. I personally feel more comfortable with MLC in my machines, write speed and longevity are important to me.

So should I go with the plexor brand over the lite on? I'm really confused because on the amazon website it says liteon but it is sold by plexor. What's the relationship between plexor and lite? Who actually makes the msata cards? Thanks very much!

Liteon and plextor are cooperating for ssd
So both liteon, plextor branded ssd are made by liteon
I read it on the internet so i could be wrong

Liteon makes it, plextor put their twinkle on it. Almost all ssd makers use parts from different places and put their shine on it. Intel uses the much hated sandforce chipset but they worked very closely with sandforce to create something very unique to Intel SSD's. I think Samsung pretty much makes their whole ssd, controller, storage everything.

I think SSD technology has came far along enough now that it is almost what brand do you trust the most. I tried the Plextor m5m from reviews and glad i did, it is blazing fast MLC ssd. I think pretty much the fastest msata ssd out. knock on wood, I am having real good luck with my samsung 840 pros and hope they dont let me down anytime soon. But thats why i chose the 840 pro for my regular non msata (5 year warranty). The standard evo drives offer 3 year...

I just purchased the plextor from Newegg for my m4700 - nice msata ssd. You can catch them on sale for 179.99

Oh me too. I am a Samsung guy, two 512gb 840 pro's in my 18 and a 256 840 pro in my 14. I wish Samsung offered a retail msata option. The PM841 being tlc based and slower iops and no end user support doesn't work for me. The pleater is liteon based, great msata drive, fast. I added a 256gb to my 14 and 15 for little extra space to my samsung ssd's...
