Sorry if this sounds like a "noobish" question. But there is a sim card slot on the m14x. So is there a built in wwan? Or is that an optional add on. I unscrewed my back plate and under the battery there is just a wlan card, next to it is an empty slot space. Is that where the wwan would go? Or is that space reserved for the intel wireless hd? I also checked my device list for a wwan and i dont see it listed. Any thoughts? Thanks

And if there is a wwan card in the m14x by default, can you post the specs of the card, and if it's cellular 3g capable.

There is no card installed by default (Dell is here to make money, of course they would charge for that!!). I believe it is there for WiMax if you installed that option (picked the 6250 WLAN card).

Alternatively, you could install your own WWAN card and antennae. There are a few threads on NBR of people doing it. Use google.

    Here's a picture.

So the sim card slot is just a dummy slot? Well thanks anyway. Though it doesn't seem too hard to run the antenna's, maybe im just being optimistic.

Well, it is a functional SIM card slot, there just isn't any hardware that makes use of it installed by default.

From a practicality point of view, I think you're better off either tethering to your existing phone, or using a personal hotspot (if your phone supports it). One SIM, one data plan, don't need to pay for a dedicated plan just for your laptop. Just all around more flexible.
