Hey guys, there are Alienware products in Brazil, but due to our heavy taxes, they are really expensive, not to mention the waiting period for it arrive is absurd (30 business days)

Anyway, I'm planning a trip to either New York, and maybe Vegas, so I was wondering, is there a store, like BestBuy, Walmart, where I can buy a M14x?

I ask this, because I think Dell US doesn't deliver to hotel rooms, and I don't think I'll be in each city very long also.

Walmart doesnt carry that kind of product. A quick search to best buy doesnt seem like they do at the moment.

You could probably get it shipped to a hotel, not directly to a room but thats not an issue. The issue is the randomness of time it takes to get computers actually shipped.

I believe dell has a retail store in new york try that out.

Get it shipped to your hotel. You're going to have to time it perfectly, so what you'll want to do is 5 days before you leave, order it and by the time you get to New York, it'll be at your hotel by day 7-8. Dell can deliver to hotel rooms, but if you want to be safe, just don't say it's a hotel and no one will know.

If you need a good American AW rep, PM me for great discounts too.

Oh, and avoid retail stores (if they have the M14X). Everything is marked up substantially and you can't bargain for discounts.

And one more thing: Once you make the transaction over the phone with AW, make sure to call Credit Card Services within the first 2 hours of the order so you can confirm your identity or else they'll cancel it :) You might need to buy a Skype account for 1 month with a US number.

Good luck! ...I'm confident that if you order it, sent it to the hotel in advance, get a US skype number, etc., it will work out for you.

I want to go to Brazil :( (Bossa Nova, beaches and gorgeous women)

As a fellow brazillian, just get one from hidevolution, its your best bet.

Dell wont accept foreign credit cards, and as far as I know they dont work with wire transfers. So you are SOL

You realize that you are still going to pay for the taxes when it arrives, usually receita federal will charge you 1.6 for the dollar and cut you with a 50% tax based on the final price (transport and the m14x), and do get the USPS postal option, otherwise you are going to pay more if you go for another courrier, since they will do the necessary transactions with customs.

Via USPS you retrieve the package in a Correios shop nearest to your house and pay the taxes there.

However you can try to get hidevolution to send you the m14x to your hotel, generally companies refrain from doing it.

But the prices of aw in Brazil are quite reasonable the m11x (the only model that we have) is just 2000 dollars! for the base model! There is really no surcharge at all!

Microcenter sells alienware products, so perhaps you could try one if that's in your area?

    Incorrect.

If you purchase an AW from the US, they DO accept foreign credit cards. This has been tested by Canadians and Europeans. The only "catch" is that you will be receiving a call from Credit Card services to verify some personal information within a 2 hour window.

If you do not get this call, you will have to call within the 2 hour window or else they cancel your order.

By visiting New York, you would only have to pay 8% or 8.5% in taxes if you ship it to your hotel.

I've purchased plenty of US-only Dell/AW products with a foreign credit card and it worked out just fine :) I just hop over to Niagara Falls, New York and pick them up @ a mail holding facility with my I.D.

All you need is a US address ...(and perhaps a US Skype ph# - Canadians use the same ph# system as the US so I never had to get a Skype account), really.

Plenty of Brits on the AW boards have even used their CC, shipped it to a US based friend and then had their friend ship it to the UK, which saved them a significant amount of money for both the system and the VAT fees.

Thanks guys for the info, like Mr.MM said, here in brazil is US$2000-2500 a M11xR3, and if that's not enough, there's a 30 BUSINESS days waiting period, I think it's delivered by a llama.

Hey Voodoi, I'm planning my trip around august, can you pm some details about how could we work this out? Also, do you ship internationally?

Does dell only accept credit cards or do they accept debit cards (US) as well?

Debit cards with the visa mastercard and i even think now thanks to prepaid cards amex logo's on them are the same thing as a credit card in terms of transaction processing. The only difference is how balance/limit is handled.

The user can actually purchase a prepaid card visa/amex in the desired amount, unless dell specifically doesn't accept them. Its a pretty high amount for a prepaid never gotten one high enough for a laptop.

I used one for Dell/AW (since my student Mastercard from the bank is only 500$) and it works flawlessly.

They charge you 2$ to add money to it (up to 5000$) and 7.50$/mo for usage. You don't get charged the monthly fee if you don't have a balance. It's 50 cents per transaction, or unlimited if you pay 15$/mo.

The pre-paid cards @ stores like Wal-Mart are not the way to go since their limits are quite small and I don't think Dell/AW lets you use over 2 cards anyways.

Here in Canada at least, you can pick one up from the Money Mart.
