    Hi all,

My new alienware 14 won't turn on.

You know how the power cable has a blue glow? Well the second I plug the lead into the laptop the glow disappears. As if the laptop shorted its power

Unplugging from power source and replugging makes it glow again (fuse reset?) But again the second it connects with the laptop it dies.

The laptop won't turn on from battery either. I tried removing battery, holding power button for a minute to discharge static.... Nothing fixes this.

I use an expensive surge protector so its definitely the laptops problem... Also my gfs alienware is running fine beside mine.

    Any advice?

Sounds like a short somewhere, more than likely on either the power board (if that is a separate board) or the main board. Best bet is to call support

It does seem like that, if you have warranty, send us an e-mail to [email protected] with your service tag, a brief description of the issue and your home address and we'll help you out with the replacements needed.

Thanks for your reply - I have called support and arranged a technician to come over on Monday.

My AW14 is brand new - have only used it for about 2 weeks.

Came as a surprise one morning when it wouldn't turn on at all.

    UPDATE:

I've just had my entire motherboard + power adapter replaced by a technician.

Seems to be charging now and turning on while charging. However my top speakers (closer to the hinge) are not working anymore.

    Getting that replaced next week...

If they keep pushing broken parts onto you, you can and should ask for compensation. You deserve a gpu/cpu upgrade or at least a free backpack if they keep screwing up like this.

Agree... unfortunately I'm too well tempered and at most would just ask for a full refund.

My gf's Alienware 14 started getting random hangs/freezes/bluescreen even though it was setup 100% the same way as my one. We even use identical software.

Had to format the hard drive and reload our most recent windows image... so far so good but how long until it breaks again? Not sure.

A little scared to buy Alienware from now on if problems keep cropping up.

Yeah I know how you feel. You won't need to be a jerk about it. Just ask politely they are really cool about it.

AW is really amazing for USA customers. Their warranty service is the best you can get. Just remember that.

I agree, I'm from New Zealand and the tech would come over the next day and replace broken parts. Better than other brands where you have to send it away for 2 weeks...

Dell contracts Unisys for their technicians in NZ if anyone's interested :)

Mine suddenly won't boot today (M14XR2). Hit the power button and nothing happens. I tried the remove the battery and hold the power button trick as well. My battery claims it's fully charged (LED test). My power adapter appears to be outputting the proper voltage (checked with a multimeter). Can I check the actual battery output via the pins with a multimeter? Do these laptops boot without a battery installed when connected to wall power? Mine will not do that either. Any advice?

My 1-year warranty expired at the end of May... I am already on my second motherboard. If I buy another warranty will I then have to pay for the part as well? I haven't ran a game on it in a few weeks, but have been doing general computing and everything was working fine. Temperatures have been good (I disabled turbo a long time ago).
