Just learned about the new M14x R2. I know they usually make R2's after they produce the new laptop for a while. I know you can upgrade processors, RAM, Hard drives, etc., on this laptop and on most laptops, but I heard that the 555M on the older M14x's is actually attached or hooked up with the Motherboard. And even though it is called a dedicated graphics card, I've heard it's designed as a integrated graphics card

So is it at all possible to upgrade from the 555M to the new 650M? Is it even worth it if you can? Can you even purchase a 650M or would you have to send it back to Dell for them to upgrade or something.

    Thanks

Nobody knows, because nobody has tried it. Maybe you can be a hero and try it out first? As of now I'm pretty sure you can only buy the part from Dell and at that point it'l cost a ton of money. It probably doesn't fit right since the r2 has room for two hdd/ssd and has a different design. If it DOES work, I'll wait a year or so until you can buy the part for like $200-300 and do it myself. Otherwise just stick with the now outdated 555m.

You can't upgrade the GPU. If you could replace the entire motherboard you could, in theory, upgrade to the 650m but that surely isn't cost effective and you'd probably break your system (if it can even be done).

gamerish is right, unlike the m15,m17 & m18 the m14x does not have MXM card based GPU's to easily upgrade them

and no one knows if an r2 motherboard will go in an r1
