Hi guys, I ordered a new Alienware 14. It comes with windows 8 and a standard hdd. I would like to install a Samsung 840 pro and also upgrade the os to windows 8. Can someone please tell me the steps to do this? Sorry I'm not very good with technology. Thanks!

You ordered Win8 and you want to upgrade to Win8? Did you mean Win7 to Win8?
If you want to upgrade to Win8 you can go to Microsoft's website and buy it and install it.

For the SSD follow this video it will be pretty similar even though you have the newer 14.

I'm not sure, I've heard of most people putting theirs in the SATA port.

I think you meant AHCI? Then yes, unless you actually want a RAID setup with an mSata
No problems for nearly 10 months now with my Samsung 830 512gb.
