I had to recently reinstall os after a third motherboard replacment on my m14x. Since then the benchmark mark results are all below average such as 9000ish in 3d mark 06 and 2300 in pcmark 7

Im having problems running any of my games at good framerates consitently they are constantly dropping and not performing properly. I have updated all the graphics drivers, bios chipset drivers etc and I have whitelisted all the right programmes and it is using the Nvidia card as the intel wouldnt come close to running the games and the. I also notice where previously the Gpu temps would hit 80-85 max under heavy load it is now hitting 92-95 under anything above light load.

Is there any steps i may have forgotten to take? I notice that nvidia say it is using directx 11 and i know the games run better in directx 9 is there any way i can force this? this doesnt explain the below average test results tho

Most of those benchmark program will use the Intel iGPU to test the graphic because it'll use the primary display card and that's the Intel iGPU. And about the NVIDIA GPU temp, that is insane! Because my average max temp is around 70C-75C, are you sure that you didnt block the air vent? And by blocking I dont mean the venting on the back of the laptop, instead the one under the laptop - the one with the fan on, because what that fan do is the suck the air in while rotate for the air the go out.

So for my suggestion, I would suggest you to have something like a book or a LEGO Block to elevate the laptop if you dont have a cooler, but for this laptop I recommend a cooler. And what game are you playing? And at what setting? Because this laptop cannot handle most modern graphic demanding game at high/ultra due to the GT555M is not the best of the line.

If you want to, you can try disable the Turbo Boost in the BIOS, I know the Turbo Boost is relate to the CPU but since the GPU use the same cooling heatsink as the CPU, by disabling the Turbo Boost it will help decrease the wind produce by the CPU thus reducing the heat during gameplay. And if possible repaste the thermal paste.

The test are indeed with the nvidia card and not the intel.

The laptop is elavated with clear airflow.

for example with Assaisains creed brotherhood on medium settings and skyrim on medium settings the fps is 20

That is not right and it is definetly using the nvidia and not intel cause i can all the way up to higher settings and the fps stays throtteled ...this is not an optimus issue.

The gt555m seems throtteled and not working properly even overclocking it makes little difference

sounds like you might have a bad vid card to me. Could also be throttling though do to a poor thermal paste job or somthing idk.
