    Hi guys,

I seem to be unable to turn off Bluetooth in windows 8. When i ran windows 7, I used to be able to press Fn + F3 and a dialog with check-boxes would appear allowing me to select if I wanted wifi on/off and if i wanted Bluetooth on/off. Now when i press it, no dialogue opens and it just toggles the wifi on/off giving me no control over Bluetooth which seems to just constantly stay on

I have installed the latest Alienware OSD and the Killer 1202 drivers (which i think should include the Bluetooth drivers) but i still don't have the option

When i go into the windows 8 settings "app" and look under wireless, the option to turn on/off wifi is blanked out and there is no option to toggle Bluetooth at all

Sooo anyone got any idea of how to fix this? Can provide more details if needed. This is quite annoying because having it on eats away my battery life. Disabling/re enabling the device each time through device manager is a pain as i use the Bluetooth quite often for small periods of time

    Thanks in advance!

Did you follow the direction on the Killer drivers support site? Killer Gaming :: Support :: Driver Downloads. If you upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, this could have caused the issue. If not, then it could be a driver compatibility with Windows 8 and the 1202 card. Just for kicks, have you got the A08 BIOS installed or you running an earlier version?

I did a clean windows 8 install. Yeah i'm thinking that's what it might be... I have the latest BIOS version which is A11 i think?

A11 is the SPECTRE BIOS. Not sure what those are for. The regular version is A08. Have you checked the Wireless tab in the BIOS to see what the wireless hot key is set to?

Yeh im not sure either lol didn't notice there were 2 until after i updated a week or so ago.. but had no problems with it. Well in the bios there is no wireless hotkey option under the Wireless tab... I'm reluctant to try downgrade the bios from A11 to A08 but might try it as a last resort

    Solved!

    1. Downloaded the Killer wireless driver from the Dell support site
    2. Uninstalled the Killer driver i had downloaded from the Killer support site when i installed windows 8; then rebooted
    3. Installed the Killer driver cleaner utility from the Killer support site; rebooted again,
    4. Installed the Killer driver from Dell; rebooted again

And now its showing up in the PC settings "app" so i can toggle it off/on independently of the wifi. So i guess downloading from Dell rather than the manufacturers site does make a difference... Maybe i should do the same with the Nvidia driver...

And is still don't understand the difference between the Spectre BIOS and the normal one but anyway...

Nor do I. But that's great you solved it

I know the display drivers from AMD and Nvidia can't be used initially on crossfire/SLI systems. Those getups need the Dell specific AMD/Nvidia drivers to get the dual GPU setup going. But once the Dell drivers are installed, we are able to use the latest drivers from the OEMs all we want. That may not be the case with the WiFi drivers that use software controls as opposed to hard-coded controls. I will have to remember that.

Well i can't get it to work although some people have the option in BIOS to change what the hotkey does. For me all it does is toggle the WiFi but i can go to PC settings in windows and toggle Bluetooth on/off that way

Same with me. Looks like there is no way to use toggle to turn on/off bluetooth in windows 8.
I miss that toggle function so much, much more easier to turn on/off bluetooth.

Everyone should have the option to change what the hotkey does in the BIOS. That much I'm certain of. I think if you have on of those combo cards, then it becomes restrictive because the BIOS will deactivate the card in whole which kills wifi as well as bluetooth.

True, but at least the workaround has been found already :p

Is there a solution yet for Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230?

I have tried different drivers, BIOS, clean install, etc. and I just can't get bluetooth working on Windows 8 :(

    hi guys,

wanna try dragging your mouse pointer to where the start icon should be, the start tile should pop up, then right click your mouse, click on device manager, highlight BLUETOOTH, press disable to turn it off. and when you want to turn it back on, just press enable.

    worked for me. :)
