Hey guys, I've got an m14x R1 that's run perfectly for a year, but just tonight it started randomly shutting down the usb port on my mouse.

My wireless mouse will stop working, and then I'll hear the 'usb disconnected' system sound a couple seconds later. I tried plugging the wireless receiver into a different USB port but, when it's in this strange 'shutdown' state, it won't be recognized. A system restart clears it up for a bit, and occasionally it resumes normal operation on its own, complete with 'usb connected' sound. Any thoughts?

My mouse has plenty of batteries, btw. :)

That didn't seem to help, unfortunately.

I've noticed it seems to happen while gaming. So it's probably a heat issue (and may mean my mobo is getting fried). I'm gonna take off the back and do a dust clean and see if it helps. Wish me luck. :)

It could also be power settings on the machine try changing it to high performance. Also try the 2.0 USB's cuz the 3.0 ones are not very good for carrying power.

Disable the power management functions in USB 3 utility software.

It fixed the similar issue I was getting on my M11x R3, it might help.

    Idarzoid, what's that software?

Also, plugging the mouse receiver into the USB port with the lightning bolt doesn't even register. No noise, no nothing. It only works on the 'SS' USB ports.

I'm gonna go play Torchlight 2 and see if I can repeat the problem... :)

EDIT: Yep, just happened again. I've got CPUID temp monitor running and none of the cores got over 88*C, so I don't think it's a heat issue. My wireless mouse receiver is currently plugged into my 'SS' USB port, which doesn't seem to know it's plugged in.

    Shoot. Disregard...everything.

It happened again 3 times and each time I was able to plug my phone into the same USB port and it was instantly recognized. Must be some problem with the mouse's wireless receiver. I tried it with new batteries and it still wasn't recognized. Time to call Logitech. :(

But: Nothing is wrong with my laptop! Yay!
