I have an M14xR2 and I have major problems with my USB 3.0 ports on my computer, everytime I have my WD 1.0TB USB 3 hard drive connected and I try to transfer some movies or files over It will start to copy then randomly disconnect/reconnect the hard drive. It extremely frustrating, I went to Intel.com and updated the USB eXtensible 3.0 drivers to the latest version and still didn't fix it. Anyone else having these problems?

I am not having problems with usb 3 peripherals but very often the usb 3 ports fail to recognize usb 2.0 hard drives which is really annoying. Gotta hope for a driver fix I think.

You may need to update the WD drivers and Firmware, we have an article about that issue on our website.

Thanks, but I've already done both of those things, and It doesn't work. As long as you don't transfer files they work great. Something driver related is screwing this up.

Did you download the latest firmware for your device? Is that only happening with that specific device?

Its not your firmware its Intels drivers. Uninstall the eXtensible host controller driver in your control panel restart windows and it should work. You are having only USB 2.0 speed then but no disconnects.

Dont mess with the device manager in this case or you may need to reinstall....everything.

Btw the Intel USB drivers are known causing alot of problems such as bsods, disconnects, panic modes and more with the new Ivy Bridge platform. Forums are full of that.
