Hey all, first forum post. I am wondering what i should be looking for when buying a TV to use as a monitor for my alienware m14x system. My max resolution is 1366x768 but that's with my intel card. I still can't figure a way to make nvidia my main display card if that's even possible.

I was looking at this tv here:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004OVEUPW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Any help or tips would be grateful!

The Intel GPU and NVIDIA GPU will both display just about any modern resolution externally, even if your display is 720p. If you use HDMI, the NVIDIA GPU will be used all the time (Good for if you have an application you cannot get to work with whitelisting). There is no way to currently use the 555M all the time without a modded bios I believe. If you use VGA, the graphics switching will still work and the Intel GPU can be used on and off like normal (for some this can be a plus because there is less stress on the system).

In terms of TV's and Monitors, the m14x, like any computer, will export to just about anything as long as it takes Mini display port, VGA, or HDMI which most do. I would not personally reccomend that TV because it is actually a lower resolution than your M14x on a much bigger screen. Can you give us a budget, size, and Im assuming youll want maximum resolution? And are you looking for a TV (good for gaming far away) or an actual external monitor? There is a big difference between the two.

what gearsguy said - but in addition - if you have a 3gb graphics card, you can hook up larger screen sizes (not that i think you mind since you're getting a 32")... but why get a 720p screen? if you look around i'm almost certain you can find another TV with 1080p for roughly the same price (will most likely be a generic-ish brand though, such as westinghouse)... depends on whether or not you want to be watching your blurays or playing games in their full 1080p resolution in the future (this laptop can handle most of those with moderate ease).

you could always get 2 23" monitors and hook them both up and run dual monitors... let me tell you... it's AWESOME (with the cpu power you have at your disposal, you can watch work on a report and write a paper, one on each screen and with your mouse able to move across them like 1 screen... it's AMAZING... but your games will be limited by 1 screen each unless if they are capable of transversing multiple screens).
