The top three I would choose is the Samsung 830, Crucial M4 or the Intel 520.

Personally I run Crucial in my M18x along with there memory in every computer I have. I've never had a problem with them, but like I said you can't go wrong with any of those companies.

How big is your current drive?

The first thing I would do is buy an external and start transferring some stuff off of it...pictures, music, and stuff like that.

That means your saving stuff to your C: drive, just transfer the stuff to your B: and you'll be fine. I just have a 128GB SSD, but that is just the operating system and other programs, but I make sure that my games are loaded onto my other drive...games take a lot of space. You may have to uninstall some programs and reload them unto your B: drive...Skype is one of those programs.

u know, all of my games are on the B: drive. but still the C: is really low on space...

Your primary drive has to be an mSATA. Open it up and see what programs are loaded under the program files and program files (x86). You might be surprised what you can move over to the other drive. Do you currently have any pictures or music stored on your primary? The mSATA is really designed just for the operating system and nothing else.

That depends on the size of the wall papers; if they are regular picture sizes than I would say it could be.

That would depend on what time of day and from where... Amazon and Newegg are always running specials.

I would get a 128GB and be done with it...plenty of room for the OS and other items and cheap enough not to hurt the wallet.

I believe all SSDs are 2.5", now the thickness is different between them and that is something that you have to pay attention to. Unless I'm wrong you want the 7mm size, not the 9.5.

Thinking that if you get a 2.5" ssd you will loose your other drive with your games.? Right?

Could try deleting old restore points and what not to free up some space on your mSata (C: drive). I have a 60gb mSata & i think it's the perfect size for just the OS and a ton of programs. I run my games (steam) on my 750gb 2.5"

I have been using the corsair force GT 120gb you can find them for real cheap now. Absolutely amazing drives.

You might also want to watch this vid for the tear down if you are going to install the SSD.

I have the 830 and it's running sataIII on M14xR1. probably 830 is the only one that can run without problems sata III on R1. you just need to have a sata III bios (A1-A5) or a modded A8(which I'm running). because they removed sata III on (A6-A8).

This is the original thread: M14x R1 - BIOS A08 with SATA fix I would recommend to use the normal one not the unlocked if you're not an advanced user. and because you might have problems downloading there, I uploaded it for you in this link: M14x A8 with sataIII.zip , but because the original poster might not want mirrors I password protected the zip file. see PM for password

just gotta say, i skipped some of the latest chat (lazy :D!)... if you're one of those people that is generally too lazy to have multiple drives and save to the proper one all the time (not a bad thing haha) then maybe you should consider a hybrid drive (such as the momentus x)? they're not as fast, but they have better speeds than your average hard drive and don't make things all messy when installing crap. i would consider than road myself if i wasn't so picky about my start-up times etc. haha :D!
