Ok so I had an R1 with an SSD and a FRESH install of windows and was not that happy with the performance of the M11x R1 with diablo 3, the game is usually at 30 fps and sometimes dips down to 12 fps.... and I hate the keyboard
I'm selling the M11x on ebay right now but when I do have the money I have no idea which M14x I should buy.
I don't care about battery life at all, and which M14x can I afford with $800? Will that be enough for the latest one? I'll be buying used of course.
How much difference is the M11x and M14x anyways? Do you guys recommend an update or just go for an M11x R?

I can't help you with the price , but I'd say its worth upgrade.
Compare to keyboard , m14x takes the lead , easier to type.
Weight , m14x is not that much heavier then m11x , I'm not ordinary muscular dude , I still able to carry it with bare hand.
Graphic/screen , m14x takes to lead , also 900p pretty good , I really like the glossy finish.
Battery life , it last around 5-6hour with mid brightness with power saving mode.(I'm able to play 7 round of league of legend without plugged in , movies , probably 3hours I think , I'd say battery life is really good.
Overall I love m14x more then m18x/m11x , since its portable and you able to play almost all the games(but not ultra setting , that doesn't bother me , as long the game is playable.)
m11x has better track pad then m14x , but m14x has FX around the track pad , m11x doesn't.
m11x has glowing fx from bottom of the fan , but not m14x. -
Well my M11x R1 even has trouble with diablo 3 in the lowest possible settings, whats the main difference of the i5 and i7 models? and also compared to the M11x?

I went from a m11x R1 to my M15x I have right now, I can not speak for the m14x but it would be a big jump from a m11x r1 to even a m14x r1. I would say to get a m14x or m15x, you can get a good deal on ebay for $800 though you are limited (m14x run about $900 at least on there usually). You could buy a cheap m15x and upgrade it later easily, either way you will want to upgrade, you will be happy that you did.

A jump from 2008 tech to 2011-2012 tech is literally astronomical. You say your getting 30 fps max on your current system in d3 on low. A current m14x will get you 30-60 on high in d3.

It depends on how you want to use your laptop. I've both the M11xR1 & M14xR1 and the M14x is not a really portable machine. Plus the fact that you must be always connected to the gigantic 150W power brick to game otherwise it'll degrade in GPU performance (batter life is also not that great), I really can't recommend the M14x (even the R2) unless you plan to keep it on your desk all the time (which I now do).
Also keep in mind that a lot of new notebooks (Ivy bridge + kepler GPU) will be launched in the coming 1-2 months you are better off waiting just a bit to compare offerings for other brands before making a decision. I myself will gladly trade in my M14x to get an ultra book (Gigabyte U2442) that only weighs 1.5kg and can game as well as the M14x! No more 8kg laptop bags! Just my 2 cents... -
Depends on your definition of "portable". For me the M14x is the perfect laptop for gaming and travelling. But for sure, it`s less portable than an ultrabook. But which ultrabook gives you a comparable gaming performance?!

Um, the Macbook Pro.
I came in here to check up on whether the M14x has improved on the screen it uses, but I guess I'm again forced to go to Apple for quality components and pay out of the nose. -
Check out this Gigabyte U2442V with Nvidia GT640M & mSata 128GB + 750GB HDD in an ultrabook package:
