I know the position of the ssd is really close to the cpu, and the cpu runs freakin hot
I just gamed for a bit and found that (via HWiNFO) the msata ssd reached 73 C (airflow) !!!
googled a bit and people say the safe temp of ssd is below 70 C, now im worry since it's my boot drive, I lose it I lose everything
do u guys having similar condition or it's just my machine?
I already have a cooling pad under it and tweaked the fan profile, doesn't seem to help :(

The msata in the AW14 is on the far right corner, the cpu aprox in the middle. The closest hot component is the GPU not the CPU. The msata is not supposed to run that hot..

just out of curiosity, besides hwinfo reading, have you actually checked the msata temperatures with you hands? Mine boot up at 24 °C, idle at 32 °C and max out at 40ish °C.

It may be a false reading.

here, check out the screenshot of the msata drive temperatures after a couple of hours of use, and this is without my coolermaster U2, just the laptop rised by one inch on the back with 2 small wood blocks. I still don't believe that your ssd is running that hot.

Edit: LOL posted wrong sensors... hold on

This is the right screeshot, sorry for the previous (that's my platter)

you can confirm that the gpu is the one closer to the msata slot?
I always think it's the cpu
I just tested it with only one game of csgo, and this happened
    [IMG]
and HWmonitor reports the same temp
the temp seems legit, as the backend of the laptop gets really warm on touch
I am sure it will get higher if I keep gaming on it (and the csgo isn't even running off the ssd)
I have a U2 under it as well! perhaps I positioned the fans poorly?
if this only happens on my machine then i shall take it to service before it's too late
thanks for the reply captain!!! :)

Yes i confirm that the closest hot component is the GPU, i already repasted mine, i'm sure about it (the memory chip are really close to the MSATA connector. Others components close to the Msata are: Wifi card (just beside it) and also the power supply plug.. To be sure, later i will try to play and see my temperatures, i don't use to keep the monitoring active on the drives, so mine might be heating up as well without me knowing about it. I'll keep you posted as soon as i can.

today I gamed for quite a while without the air-con on,
holysxxt the ssd reaches 82 C
    this is totally unacceptable
then I took off the base cover and just put it on the U2, with one of the fan pointing directly to the ssd
things get much better now. it won't go beyond 60 C when gaming, and it's 38 C idling with air-con on
I suspect the piece of cloth on the mesh of the base cover blocks the air flow completely, so the stray heat accumulate in that ssd/nic compartment
well if it's the problem I am ready to tear that stupid cloth away, since i can't see any point of it's existence

I already did tear that piece of cloth away :D. Then i put it back, since i was working o a desertic area full of dust. Now i'm over with that project and once at home i'll remove the piece of synthetic cloth once again, in my opinion it will improve the overall air circulation, even in the GPU area.

On a side note, i'm using the U2 with the 3 fans that i removed from my U3 :D.

I'll keep you posted later on after playing some game ;)

    EDIT:

Since at the moment i can't play, i did just a run of 3Dmark11. Temperature on the SSD has topped out at 54 °C. I noticed that the area around the power connector gets warm. It can be that the source of the "excessive" on the msata. Note that i used the " " on excessive. It is still an electronic component, that surely will be safer at lower temperatures, but i don't believe it that 60 °C will kill him before time. Most probably we will be changing our hardware for new options before an SSD will be killed from overheating.

Hyper, i did a "temperature bench". Fired the most unoptimized and heavy game on the installed games from my steam library: X Rebirth. Here is the result after 2 hours of playing. This with 24 -25 °C room temperatures and the U2 underneath (still with the synth. cloth covering the MSATA ssd area, so no direct air flow over the drive) Tomorrow i'll remove it and re-test.

I believe my temps are the same as yours, and also that the heat is a combination of different close by heat sources that contribute to the overall temp of the msata.
