So this is the second m14x I have, I returned the first one due to a screen issue. My problem is that the first m14x's sub had bad contact and didn't work and now the new one I have now makes a crackling sound.. Does anyone else have trouble with theirs?this cant be a coincidence :(

I also had this problem, but after I do the fresh install everything back to normal, I'd suggest you re-install the sound driver, because that what I do before I try the fresh install.

I just reinstalled the drivers from Dell's website and still get the same problem, this is definitely a hardware problem :(

I did the fresh install is because of the AlienFX not showing properly, and I confirm that it work again too early, that is because the first time I try it is actually work but now it isnt, so yeah definitely it is the hardware problem.

Do you think I should return it for a replacement?

I figured it out, I popped open the lid and the sub woofer is broken. So the sub woofer on this laptop sucks cus the same thing happened to the first one I had. I called up support and they are going to put in a new one tomorrow :D

I just got mines replaced and notice that the sub woofer is loose, its not bolted down, this might make a slight crackling noise when playing music. I don't know much about speaker and all that but shouldn't something that is going to be vibrating be bolted down?

Agh, my laptop was making a crackling noise when I was playing some music this morning. It went away but I hope that its not the subwoofer. I just received the laptop yesterday too! :(

Yeah this is poor engineering man, the sub woofer is not bolted down it just sits there so when you play a song at high volume the sub woofer vibrates and moves around that's what makes that noise. I opened the laptop and glued it down with some krazy glue lol it doesn't do it anymore but I think its a temporary fix I'm pretty sure the vibrations will unstick the glue
