Hey guys. I just got my m14x yesterday and i found that i am having massive problems with my steam games not being very cooperative with the optimus detection. whenever i try to play shogun 2 or witcher through steam the graphics look horrendous. shogun 2 wont let me select anything over "medium" in the graphics options and witcher doesnt even launch because it says i do not meet the minimum requirements. however when i run bf3 beta it seems to work pretty well. i tried going into the nvidia control panel and slecting "High-Performance NVIDIA Processor" under the global settings tab and even for the individual programs themselves but it doesnt seem to work.

can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction? thanks for your help.

Not sure if true, but if you have MSI Afterburner on, even if it's not overclocking, it will force your computer to use the 555M. Or at least I think it will, not entirely sure. Also make sure that your'e plugged in, it won't run it on battery.

For steam games like TF2, HL2. I never have a chance to see it using the GT555M, however external games like Fallout NV, Fallout 3, Supreme Commander 2, and Borderlands (these are some few game I only have on Steam) it seem to run with GT555M even I dont force it (Borderlands), but not for Valve's game.

    I had this problem once.

Then I realized I had put AlienFusion on Power Saver. S: The problem went poof as soon as I switched to High Performance.

Just in case you hadn't though of that... Otherwise, don't know why you would be having these problems.

Try going to Nvidia website and downloading the new BETA 285.XX driver, it works great and should solve your issues :)

Call Dell and inform them that their 6 month old video driver is out of date so they can update it instead of you trying beta drivers that have not been tested. Let them do the work you after all bought there product and the old video driver is not cutting it anymore.

Well, I AM on the latest driver now - 285.38 (the BF3 Beta driver) This is not a new problem, it is happen on most people laptop.

I do also have tried several drivers like from the stocked 267.xx to 275.33 to 285.26 to 285.27 to 285.38 and none of them seem to fix, it look like Steam just doesnt like Optimus machine. And talking about Optimus machine, I remember that GTA4 is the worst game that giving me the most trouble trying to get it work.

Plus I didnt said it is not working (Steam) but I said it is randomly happen to me.

Are you whitelisting the actual game executable and not the steam shortcut?

That was the very first thing I'd do before starting the game, in fact I will basically whitelist everything that is relate to gaming except for those game that incl with Windows.
