I was just wondering, is it normal to hear a sound when you use the touchpad?

I mean for example navigating in control panel menu, you hear some kind of sound coming out from the speakers when you select stuff, either clicking the touchpad button or simply tapping the surface to select.

It's something like a slight soft "clock", that comes out from the speakers I guess.

It's some kind of feature that I don't know about? I was searching through the touchpad options but couldn't find anything..

It doesn't happen everytime, just randomly...

It's not that sound or any Windows sound at all, it seems like it's something like a mechanic sound, I don't know how to explain... :(

Now that I think of, it's like those "clicks" that you ear when you use an iPod, but it's a "clock" instead and it's much more softer, and it doesn't happen all the times...

    I really don't have a clue.

If I understood what you're saying correctly, that's the sound of the subwoofer speaker cone popping. I had it on my system as well, and it was intermittent. I couldn't always reproduce it but I did get it to happen more often when I was simply navigating folders.

Another sound that you may hear which is like a series of clicks/beeps would be the fan spinning up. This one is perfectly normal.

Exactly!!! It happens randomly while navigating folders, especially in the control panel for me...

Weird isn't it? It would be nice to have a fix for it, it's not annoying, but we all know that it just shouldn't happen.

I've tried with the tactx mouse, same problem.

Do you have the soundblaster? Tried to disable it?

Mine had the sound regardless of whether I was using the trackpad or an external mouse. Unfortunately my system isn't with me anymore so I can't try anything else on it. Perhaps someone else could chip in? Honestly, I wasn't very much bothered by the sound at all but I believe Dell could replace your speaker assembly under warranty if you check with them.

I'll try with the drivers first, soundblaster and realtek...

Also when the soundblaster is active I can't ear any regular windows sound that you're supposed to ear when you open a folder, just the "clock" from the subwoofer... o_O

Try going to the control panel look for "Sound Scheme" found in the sound menu. It should be "Windows Default" instead of something like "Windows Default (Modified)" or even a blank field from the drop-down menu.

I've kinda isolated the problem. It should be because of the creative software.

This is weird because the first M14x that I had didn't make this noise but then I got it replaced and the new one does make this noise :(
