Recently I've noticed that my Nvidia 650m is sometimes not discoverable by my laptop. Right clicking on the desktop does not show the Nvidia Control Panel and if I go into Device Manager the card is not listed under Display Adapters.

A simple reboot fixes the issue, but is there an underlying problem here which I need to address?

This is actually normal - it just means Optimus has shut your GT 650M completely. Unless you find your GT 650M doesn't appear when you start an application, there is no reason to worry.
