I installed my new SSD, and I broke the little white clip that holds the ribbon in place. Any chance of getting this fixed, or do I just opt for the caddy with a second HDD and get a USB DVD drive?

It will be okay just push the ribbon firmly back into the clip and push the clip back in. Broke it once never had an issue sent my computer away and I think Dell replaced it not even sure although.

Here's good advice to anyone swapping drives:

    - The plastic clip is on a slider. Pull it up a bit to release the ribbon (but don't pull it off!!)
    - Don't use too much force on your ribbon cable or clip. If its not going in/out easily, then you are doing something wrong.
    - When you put the ribbon in, make sure the clip is loose. Once it is seated, push the clip down to lock the ribbon in place.

If you don't follow this advice, you're gonna have a bad time.

Lost the clip since I made this thread. =/

Looks like an external DVD rom for me.

What would a part like this be called, do they even sell replacements? I'm sure there must be some seller on eBay.
