I am looking for a laptop for about 1000-1200$. I usually have multiple web browsers open and maybe 2-4 programs running at the same time, if i get a 8gb ram, i7 3.01 (turbo) GHz processor will that be ok plus i am ALWAYS on the computer i game but not online fps just offline rpgs like skyrim or other. but i do game online as in miniclip and have lots of web browsers open and i was looking at the alienware mx14 because it looks really sick and the performance is amazing plus it needs to be something i can take to my friends house once a weekend if i spend the night that is portable, also if i get the killer wifi will that get my internet connection anywhere or just anywhere WIFI is available, I need to know if im online with web browsers and maybe a video or game program up how long the battery will last me. And i watch alot of youtube videos and i dont want to wait a long time for them to buffer, Also i need this to last me through college i am a sophomore in high school second semester and wanted this to be a reliable computer for 5-6 years more. If you have any other laptop suggestions let me know
My preferences are 14 inch, screen i7 processor, 8gb ram, and needs good battery life. THX ALL

For basic everyday usage such as what you state, the M14x will run like nothing is happen. However for the Processor, I think you might misunderstand with the Turbo Boost feature, because as for as I know, the highest clockspeed for the i7 mobile is 2.5Ghz (With Turbo Boost to 3.6Ghz), but I do not recommend you to get that processor because it is overpriced and not worth the money.

As since this is an Alienware forum, I guess more people here would suggest an Alienware, but in this case, I might say different because what you looking for here, doesnt really need a bad a** gaming laptop to handle the stuff such as game on miniclip. You might better off with other laptop like ASUS or Dell XPS anything like that would also do the work and save you more money, however I cant suggest you any specific one because I really have no idea tbh  .

Anyway, if you decide to go for this laptop, I can assure you that it will be the best 14" laptop you ever invest on, because it will run anything you throw at, except for some graphic demanding game such as BF3. I own this laptop for more than 6 month now, and never had any major problem with it though, and it is my best laptop I ever own. As for the battery life, for my experience, my longest was around 2.5hrs, however according to Dell's ads, it claim to be able to last up to 6hrs, some of the users here also claim it last for something like 4hrs.

the m14x will meet most of your needs. what programs are you running specifically? unless you have a specific use for hte i7 i reccomend getting the i5 as most games aren't optimized for 4cores with hyper threading. The m17x is alot better but but at your budget i'd go with the m14. I doubt that any 14" laptop can keep running the most recent games in 5-6 years though.

    No.
There may be an option for 3g internet, but it would require a data plan with a cell carrier.

If you want good battery life, get the core i5 version. You wont notice a difference much, and the only game that takes advantage of more than 2 cores, to my understanding, is battlefield 3, right now. With the i5, you get improved battery life, and lower heat, the i7 is a scorcher.

i got the 6250 w/ wimax because it was prebuilt with it. so far it's been great, no lag on sc2 and good ping. People were having trouble with the killer a while back, don't know if it got resolved now. What you should consider is bluetooth if you plan on using bluetooth devices. and also the i5 which is cooler even without repaste.
