Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere but I couldn't find a thread for it.

I'm supposed to get my m14x today and wanted to know what kind of security software anyone can recommend. I have mcafee on my computer now, and it really slows down the boot up time. I'm just looking for something that works really well and doesn't slow down performance.

    Microsoft Security Essentials
    Avast!
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

For complete coverage, I'd install all of the above, though this is someone who hasn't used any sort of security software (other than Windows firewall) in the last six years.

I highly suggest Microsoft Security Essentials. This is a free software from Microsoft and it works like a charm. I got a 15 month Mc Affe free from Dell but I removed it because it was taking too long to boot and wasnt easy on the resources as well.

With MSE, your booting time will improve drastically and it is very easy to use and update. For me, it's MSE all the way. ;)

MSE and Malwarebytes are good but I dont believe you can run Avast along with MSE since they are both active virus scanners.

I have been using MSE since it was OneCare and never looked back so that is all I would recommend for virus protection.

bitdefender, has always been reliable for me. It's nice and light weight and also very user friendly. Has a great game mode too.

MSE is all you need for virus portection.

If you are worried about Malware use Malwarebytes and/or Spybot.

also grab a program called secunia. It will tell you when any of the version of software have been superseded, will auto patch some software and generally ensure that all the software you on your machine is up to date.

    Secunia.com
