So i just oc'd my GPU to 750/1500/900 i'm wondering if i can go any higher with the memory clock? on idle my cpu's run at 60-70 on IDLE and i know that's not too good, yes i have disabled the turbo mode, this laptop is only 4 days old, so it shouldn't have any problems with the thermal paste, unless dell forgot to put it on :L i'm kidding. But seriously, is that major for a laptop? I don't own a cooling pad, i'm just using a desk. the max gpu load will get whilst @ that MHz is about 80... and the max the cpus will get is about 80-85, i'm not sure this is normal could you fellow's help me :) thank you for your time.

By the way i'm new to this forum, my name is jack. thanks! :D :D

    THE GPU IS A 555M 3GB version running 296.10

That's a little high for idle for the CPU. Make sure the laptop is elevated by something so that the fan is unblocked. Idle is usually 45-50 for me

I just 4 dvds under it (2 each side) and now it's 60-65 temps... i've been reading around and it actually could be the thermalpaste.. apparently dell is slack with it.. could that be the case? I also heard about 'Breaking it in' apparently, some people have gotten over 90 playing games and then a month later or so it has gotten much better. actually i'm monitoring my temps now after the dvds the gpu has gone to 54c on idle, and the cpus are getting to about 58... i don't want to have to elevate my laptop every time i use it though.

can you get attachable coolers that just 'attach on to the bottom' so i can remove it when i want and attach when i want. core 0# seems to be the highest running core, it sticks around 65. i have firefox (3 tabs) (skype open) (steam open) (fraps open) few other little pieces task manager sits on about 25-45

    thank you for your time.

Just a had chat with my friend, he works with a IT mob, he said those temps are fine, laptops are made to outstand quiet some heat. so i guess i'm happy. just ran bf3 for a good 10-20mins, all on ultraAAx2 and max res, gpu got to max 69 and cpu's max to 82... so it's not so.. bad

Well for some reason they have all bumped back down to 50-55 nothing higher on idle. that sounds about right am i correct? :) gpu is sitting on 51 as well, i rang dell they grabbed my details and told me to flash bios to latest, this laptop is 4 days old. I was explaining and using short terms like gpu and cpu and they didn't even know what the abbreviation meant! I was like, fair enough... haha

Thats fine. Eventually you should have the CPU in the 50's without it needed to be elevating. I wouldnt worry too much

Hello Jack, Welcome to NBR, you can OC more for the GPU however you must install the M14x modded/unlocked VBIOS (Voltage BIOS For GPU), otherwise the mem clock would just stuck at 1080, however you should also know that the more you increase the clock the shorter the life time and the more heat it will produce when in-game, and as said to what you get with the CPU, I dont recommend you increase any more of the clock, as the GPU is using the same heat pipe as the CPU.

OH okay, that makes more sense, i'll probably leave the gpu @ 750/1500/900 it runs all games on ultra. So i don't think i will change that. I haven't increased my clocks on my cpu so that should be ok, something was up last night was running cpu hot but it's ok now 50-55c max. Thanks for that! I understand now because the gpu heat pipe is same as the cpu. might even keep 750/1540/900 that still runs pretty well. Is there any way i can OC the gpu in the bios so i don't have to use MSI afteburner? cos it wont save my over-clocks when i haven't got the AC adapter connected to it. thanks.

I dont think BIOS allows it, but you can save your overclocks to profiles and to overclock at startup with NVIDIA system tools (downloadable addon for NVIDIA control panel that allows overclocking)

Ah ok, i just have MSI to run @ startup :)

Gearsguy, what do you run your GPU @? I see 800/1050/1600 is that core/shader/memory? also what program do you use to OC it - Cheers. Also is your ram OC'D or does the m14x come with 1600MHz standard?

I AM SORRY FOR THESE MULTI-POSTS.

Hey, what did you mean by installing a modded/unlocked vbios? I'm kind of new to ocing.. my mem clock is stuck @ 900 in MSI afterburner. Is that what you meant? what would be a good setting for my memory clock? Cheers.

    Im using a volt mod.

Btw, I would recommend using the Edit button at the bottom for adding something in, or just keeping everything in one post

They are using a V-Modded Bios, which allows you to change the voltage etc and overclock your card more. Technically it voids your warranty but at the same time I doubt they could tell you did it if you change it back before a repair.

Thanks DC87. So if i got a v-modded bios i would be able to change the gpu settings in MSI afterburner to higher?
    jack

I want to up my memory clock, what would be a good number to put it?
