Plays well on my m14x. average 40fps on near max settings. [reduced ground clutter and shadows].

I'm around 35 with most settings on high. I didn't adjust the slider for clipping or anything though.

Sweet I had made a thread asking about this earlier. So are either of you experenicing any slow downs or suttering while you play? Or does the game pretty much run smoothly and look good?

Every few minutes the swtor app hangs for about 20 seconds or so, but it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem as far as I can tell. It might be a Windows issue on my end.

Other than that it seems to run well. I think anything about 29-30 fps is just fine.

Hopefully that weekend beta is coming up soon. I really can not wait to try it on my Mx14. I know everyone so far has reported great things on how it runs. I just feel like somehow its going to take me a while to tweak it to run decent. But maybe I am just being a little too negative about it.

I ran it on a two year old MacBook Pro (GeForce 9400M) and it ran so bad I bought the m14x. Waiting on it now. I cannot wait to try it on one either! I'm hoping to max out everything.

Ran very poorly at first on my M14x; for some reason Optimus wasn't kicking in even though I forced it to use the 555 in the control panel. Wasn't until I toggled back and forth between windowed->full screen->windowed that it finally started working. Also getting about 40-45 fps.

I had no issues and it played perfectly smoothly. The optimus thing is odd because the launcher defaults to the NVidia card but the actual .exe for the game switches to the Intel gpu. If you go to task manager with the game open you can get the file path to the actual exe and add it to the NVidia control panel. I never dropped below 40fps while playing and usually hovered about 50-60.

Optimus is weird. If I choose the default file "launcher.exe" it recognizes it as "Hamilton's Great Adventure" and won't run it on the 555. I have to either choose to shortcut or rename launcher to something else. Runs great on my m14x as well. Avg 40 fps with everything maxed out. The game still needs to be optimized though. There are cases where it drops to 20 but that's normal for a beta.

Awesome, my guess is the Beta Weekend will probably be the Thanksgiving one. They should give people an oppurtunity to dl it a little early.

So then I will finally get to test it and tweak. But if it runs like people are saying then I should be very pleased.

Got to try a little testing on my Mx14 from a friends account. Seems to be running well. Have everything on High, sliders such as ground density, shadows and distance I have not messed with too much yet. But yes I am glad as of right now the way the game runs.

I will try to continue working on tweaking the game to get it running and looking at its finest. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an ingame command to show your FPS?

Is it too early to ask if this is finally the WoW killer everyone is waiting for?

Not sure if I am doing anything wrong but my in game FPS says its around 20 and that is with most sliders at about halfway or so. Also Dymanic Light on Medium and Mesh Detail on Low. The rest of the settings are on high. I am not sure if I am missing something.

sounds like its using the IGPU ;) let me look and see if its possible to whitelist the game :)

edit: I just looked in the files and found two files you can whitelist by using the guide in my sig. here are their addresses at least on my machine:

there is an .exe in this folder that might swap it over to the discrete GPU. Its called SWTOR and its in the directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic\betatest\retailclient

the other one is the launcher and the file to white list for this is Launcher.exe(its named launcher I just added the file extension). This one is located in: search-ms: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic

hope this helps as I have optimus disabled by using a modded bios atm and don't have the time to re-enable it and test for you. :(

Thanks, I did what you said it helped the game tremendously. I am now getting the 40ish fps like everyone else. Putting the two files on whitelist made all the difference. Now I can have every setting on high. Still have not messed with the sliders too much. But the game runs great now.

Once again thanks for the help and the guide!

Hi. I have Alienware m14x and I have whitelisted swtor.exe but not the launcher since when I try to add it it changes name to Hamilton's great adventure or somemthing like that. My problem is FPS drops every 3rd second. The starting area I get like 50 FPS constant.. then after level 3-4 I get to a new area and my FPS drops to like 17-25 every 3rd second.

    GT555m 3GB, i7 2.2Ghz, 6GB RAM.

I use the newest drivers from dell, the 285 beta drivers.

    Please help me.

And Bigtonyman, please any advice on how to disable optimus with that modded bios? Where do I find it, how do I do it ?

Edit: I restarted the nvidia settings for SWtor and added GT555m as the main GPU again and now Im on a steady 40-50 FPS, hope this lasts :)

Edit2: And when I don't play with my 27" LCD screen I'm back to FPS drops. Maybe my GPU is overheating?

    Edit3: Or maybe my CPU?

    Did some testing:

Add the launcher. It doesn't matter what it says next to it when you add it, it will still say launcher.exe, and will apply the setting.

If you use a HDMI connection it will use the nVidia card. That's why you see the frame rates increase.

Played mine with everything Max and it ran at steady 40+ Fps so cant say im not impressed, but even then gfx is not that great in swtor.

Only if I felt the same way about the game...just feels so boring and bland which is disappointing.

It may seem that way to an extent but I guess it's nice since it allows many users to play the game.

Just got into the Early Access, the game seems to stay around the Usual 40ish FPS with some different graphic settings I have tried. It does like to drop to around 17-20 sometimes. Not sure if it is the game being funky or I just need to try some more tweaking.

To my experience the drops in FPS are probably the servers been joined by more people and such , Maybe the game is not yet as optimized as it could be ? Not sure but for the Graphics in game the M14x can handle all High smoothly (to some extent) If you OC to 750/1080 i hardly have hiccups.

Anyone pushing swtor out to an external 1080p? What results?
