    If I want to install an SSD is it necessary to remove the optical drive?

    I guess that depends where you want to put the SSD. Get an MSATA and you can keep the optical drive.

    While placing it in the bay for the original HDD, no caddy, you remove it temporarily as shown in the vid, change your
    HDD with the SDD, put the drive back in and there you go.

    Sorry, I'm stupid. By "remove" I thought you meant put in an SSD in place of the optical drive :) Language is so fun.

    It is. As Luis noted, you need to remove the optical drive in order to get to the HDD bay. I would recommend getting an mSATA SSD instead. You'd pay about the same price as a 2.5" SSD and it's a lot less hassle to install. Plus, you get to keep your hard drive and use it for data and file storage.
