There's a lot of discussion about M14x (with the A08 bios) SATA performance, but I haven't seen any post's that discuss what I experienced. A week ago I installed a Samsung 830 256GB in my M14x R1 with the standard A08 bios. I did both a clean install and a respawn, and both times I got SATA III performance (520MB reads and 400MB writes - see the pic). Then two days later the motherboard failed with the seven beeps error code. Somewhere I read that this failure affects pre Dec 2011 motherboards. It was replaced by a newer motherboard (still A08 bios) and now I'm down to just over 250mb read/write. So has anyone heard that there was a change in the motherboard that affects SATA III performance?

I may have to try that now. I was surprised, based on other peoples experience, that I was able to get SATA III speed with the unmodified A08 bios. If anyone else has SATA III working on the unmodified A08, it would be interesting to know which revision of motherboard they have.

Actually, it would be good to know how to determine which revision of motherboard you have anyway. If it's from a bad batch, you might be inspired to extend the warranty.

I think when they did the motherboard revision they updated the graphics chip (GT555) version form GF106 to GF116. Do if you have the GF116 you have the revised motherboard.
