I know Alienware is trying to appeal to gamers, but its a pain having a rough surface (4 dots) on the S key. Subconsciously I keep trying to scratch it off like its something that shouldn't be there.

I know its for WASD home key spot, but anyone who does any kind of pc gaming just 'knows' where that is when you are playing a game. I don't need raised dots on the key to tell me that.

Anyone else annoyed by the dots on the 'S' key?

    The dots look like this:

    ....o....
    ...ooo..

My ring finger doesn't touch that part of the key when I'm in typing position. Also, I usually don't touch when I'm gaming, either. It can be useful to find the key without looking, and I sort of like it, but only barely.

Be glad they didn't put on the W.

Not all gamers are right handed either. My mouse is in my left hand and I use the arrow keys instead of wasd.

Pop the key off, scrape the dots of with a box cutter, repaint, and pop the key back in.

    Personally I just ignore it.

This is how I know the op isn't a real Alienware gamer, all Alienware gamers know why there are raised ridges on the s key. Real Alienware gamers have indentations on their fingers and that "s" key stand for "symbiotic" key which allows us real alienware gamers to interface with our machines via the indentations on our finger which are also interface ports for the symbiotic gaming. All we need to do is touch the key and we are linked and one with our machine and can control it completely with our mind......no need for keys or mice/touch pads, it's all in our head...

    True story.

I don't get the raised dots either...if you're gaming in the day time and lose your spot, you will look at the keyboard for a fraction of a second to reposition..same at night with the backlighting. seems redundant :p

I don't get the appeal of WASD... I use YUIN. Gives quick access to more keys in the area.

Weird. I can understand ESDF instead of WASD, but not YUIN. I would be confused by having sidestep right next to the forward key.

I like the dots on the S key. I can never feel them 'cause my finger never touches that part of the key and it's one of those features that demonstrates to people that this is an awesome gaming laptop that is better than their laptops. What's the point in getting an Alienware if you're not going to show it off?

I thought it was there to scratch your finger when it needed itching... guess not.
