The soft touch finish on a corner of my m14x is rubbed off due to bad packaging. I could buy a whole new lid (not sure how to even replace a lid) for $50, but I have an idea on something that might be similar to the finish on it already, has anyone ever heard of Plasti Dip? It's like a rubber paint, and you can buy it like spray paint or like regular paint. There's colors and just a clear kind, which is what I'm thinking about using...do you think I could just tape off the small area on the corner and spray it over once? Or is that a bad idea?

You could but most likely the texture would be noticeably different. You have nothing to lose if your other option is to get a replacement lid though. And plasti-dip is usually removeable (albeit not extremely easily).

if you are going for cosmetic treatment, why not search for Alienware M14x decals. They look good and i guess will get the work done for few bucks. nearly all of them state to be scratch resistant upto certain degree. Its better then taking apart your notebook and perhaps entering the "warranty void" zone.

    just an opinion ;)
