Greetings, everyone! I'm a new m14x owner, came into it for very very cheap, and i have only ONE beef with this beaut.

I'm used to Acer laptops (my last machine was an Aspire 5552G), and one universal feature among Acers is that the volume and brightness controls are bound to the arrow keys, when paired with the function key. However, on this Alienware, the brightness keys are F4 and F5, and the volume are F8 and F9. Kind of hard to reach and home in on if i'm trying to quickly change the volume or brightness, and obviously you can't use a third party utility to modify the FN key's behavior, being a hardware key.

Am i missing a utility that allows you to remap these keys?

There is none. Sorry about the inconveniences that this might bring you but you'll need to get used to the new set-up.

Oh well, i'm sure i'll get used to it, or use Sharpkeys or something to bind another one of the modifier keys. Thanks anyway!

It's ironic because the Precision line of keyboards is setup like yours. I wish Alienware would remap the keyboard to be more like the Precision line. I almost bought a Precision M6700, but Alienware has higher resale value.

Surprisingly, very few laptops have this layout, but Acers almost uniformly do. It makes it really easy to adjust the volume quickly if you accidentally play a video at full blast or need to turn something up to present it without awkwardly hunting for the proper F-key. Other companies should take note :)
