I had this issue before and actually opened a thread here. That time the problem went away after updating the intel driver. Currently i have the updated driver from intel but the problem is still there. The refresh rate switches back to 40 every time i plug in my charger. Freaking annoying when the screen goes off every single time it happens :/  Any one got a solution? I'm using latest intel driver and nvidia too..also running win 8.

    R1 or R2?

Use the DELL drivers only because the computer works better with the optimus enabled and the best way to have that is by using those drivers.

Okay so when i put my service tag in driver page it shows out dated nvidia driver and no intel driver. However if i select "All related drivers for your Product" it does show the intel driver but then again it's out dated. The driver there is from 2011 :/

Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention this..i'm using R1

Even though the are like that they will perform well, we have not updated the drivers because they have proved to be stable. We normally release driver updates only when there is an issue reported. Please try those.

I googled and found this solution (I have the same problem myself):

Disable Intel's automatic 60hz to 40hz refresh rate change on Batt
This is how to fix the annoying automatic 60Hz to 40hz refresh rate switch when one goes from AC to Batt. (you will notice the screen go blank temporarily as it switches). To see what I'm referring to, simply right click your desktop, choose Graphics properties and make sure you are using the advanced layout. There you will see the current refresh rate.

Open regedit (type regedit in start menu search box)

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Classes

Now hit Ctrl+F or select find from the edit menu.

    Search for: FeatureTestControl

When you find it, change whatever it currently is to f840 (as hex) or 63808(decimal).

Reboot. Now it will stay on 60Hz whether you run on A/C or Batts
