I created a recovery image for my R1, and the utility mentioned that it needed a USB drive with at least 11GB of space. The process finished without any errors reported, but on checking the space used on my 16GB thumb drive, the actual used space was only around 3GB. Can anybody confirm that this is the correct size? If so, would there be a way for me to transfer the contents to a 4GB thumbdrive? Seems like a waste of a good 16GB stick.

When i used DVD's to store backup, it took me two DVD's. and when i inspected them closesly, they both had tracks burned on them. So its more than 3gb for sure. Prbably you cannot see all filetypes and hence the size display problem. But it can never be 3gb considering the fact that Windows 7 home premium setup dvd has files of more than 3.5 GB and when it is done installing, it occupies like 10-11gb on HDD.
Also, i dont think transferring images is a good idea. These thumb drives are created bootable by the software. if you simply copy paste it elsewhere, you end up witha thumb drive with no bootable file. It wont work when you will need it. So dont mess with the thumb drive with restore data.

Hello Spectator, the space used on recovery image depends on the information you have saved in the computer, 3GB is possible. If the program is requesting at least 11GB it might be just because the software is configured to ask for that amount, what you can do is try to back up the recovery image again on a 4GB flash drive, nothing is going to get damaged just by trying.

Natalia, I initially tried it on an 8GB thumb drive, but it was asking for at least 11gb of space. This is actually the only thing that's bothering me at this point. I'd like to be sure that even though it specifically asked for 11GB, that my restore image will still work.

Nuaron, I checked the disk usage through the drive's property window, not through explorer.

If that is the case, try copy pasting the image file onto a smalelr thumb drive and booth through it?

Windows 7 by default requires 20GB of space for the install (even though it only uses 10-11), and the DVD ISO file for Windows Home Premium is 2.8GB....So its "technically" possible to have a 3GB backup .... but I think you should try and rebuild it :)
