Hello all, when I first received my M14x it ran LoL on max settings, no problem, and the max it would get to would be 85 degrees...
Now after 4 months with my M14x, it's reaching 95 degrees on the LOWEST settings possible...and it's LoL...not much of a graphic hungry game.
What do you guys suggest I should do ?
I have the newest BIOS and Nvidia updates....
I could run it on "Powe saver" "Balanced" "High Performance"...no difference, same result. All I run is Skype in the background.
I'm thinking of selling it, just really disappointed with it.
Any help would be welcomed, thanks!

I presume you mean the CPU? If you have noticed that much change in a short period of time, then its not a software/bios issue. It sounds like the cpu needs to be repasted and/or reset, and you may need to change the fan.

You might want to turn the Turbo Boost which can be found in the BIOS setting, because having the Turbo Boost on, doesnt help much with the performance instead it will just add more heat to the CPU. Second try clean the fan and have something like a book to elevate the laptop for better ventilation. Third if your laptop is still under 21/30 days (depend on region) old, you can return it to Dell for either replace or refund. But if not then, the only place would be either here in NBR Marketplace or eBay.
My CPU once (around 4-5 months ago) reach 99C while playing BFBC2, but after I turn the Turbo Boost off and get a cooler, the temp never actually reach 93C, the average max will be around 89C for most games incl BF3 and Skyrim. -
I told em to give me a follow up call after 2 days as i was keeping my notebook under observation. After two days, I had a long chat with tech guy. he said that this laptop for built to withstand such high temps and until you were getting BSODs and software crashes i was doing just okay as laptop was not getting damaged in way. i know how many of you would freak out if their system gets this hot. But thing is temp is dependent on many factors such as room temp, usage etc. People living in colder region will ofcourse get lower temps comparred to people living in tropical and subtropical region where its hot and humid.
I guess for now, you can call the tech support and let them know its heating up. And i am sure that they will end up changin your heatsink but dont expect miracles. At most you will see a 4-5 C drop. But if your system is running just fine with no crashes and BSODs , i see no reason to have anything replaced . I found no improvement in my case so thats my opinion.
On the downside, you might have to send em your laptop, or incase the tech guy comes over to your place, i am sure it will be his first time opening up an alienware. so he would look at it as some sort of a different specie. thinking about 5 minutes before unscrewing a single component. plus i am not a big fan of replacing factory fitted components. most of the time these are either refurbished components, so i would stick with new ones as long as possible.
I do not speak for anybody in the alienware forum and just for myself. What i have mentioned above is from personal experience so it might be an isolated case. But i guess this might shed some light on the issues you are facing. -
try cleaning the fans you will be surprised the difference it will make.

DEFINITELY clean the fans. Make sure to use canned air and stick something in the fan blades to make sure they don't spin, and blow the air through that back end, not into the fan, a few big dust bunnies should come out. I had 97-98 temperatures and it went down to 80 on BF3. Keep in mind I used a stand for my laptop that lifted it up off the ground, and had open air underneath it, but it didn't have a fan it.
Reaching 90's! HELP!
