Happened 2 times now, one a couple days ago, one just now. It just shuts down immediately, doesn't even shut down the OS first. I still had 66 percent battery too. When I try to turn it back on, it will try to make that little noise it makes when you click the power button, but it gets cut short.... I'm guessing either the battery, or MOBO... Oh, and I am on A03, and I remember one of the BIOS having some sort of booting problem on battery... Going to try to update to A05, and then go inside and unplug and replug the battery. Sad thing is, I won't be able to tell if I did fix it, just have to wait and see.

Hmm, well the M14x does get pretty warm. Let's see now, I bet you were using it for 2-3 hours. Depending on use that's enough time to overheat. Were you using a laptop cooler? Also, there was another issue with doing demanding things off chord. The battery can't get enough voltage so it's like it's suffocating. Besides that, it could be the battery's fault. shrugs

Shouldn't have overheated browsing the web... Especially because I don't think my CPU has ever crossed 70 degrees on normal web browsing.

Alright then, I didn't know if you were playing Metro 2033 or something. If that's the case then I would update everything that seems out of date and hope for the best. If that doesn't do the job, then come back here or give Dell a call.

thats really strange, have you tried plugging it in and seeing it will boot then? could be a loose power connection or a bad battery of something.

Yea, it starts normal on plugged in, and it will start normal on battery, but just not after it dies on battery. It has to be plugged in to turn on, but from there it can be unplugged

try letting it die completely and recharge it, yes its bad to that but only if you constantly do it, you should do it once every 2 months or so to calibrate the battery so it reads properly and gives you an accurate reading

how long have you had the laptop?

diagnostics should be under f12 when the alienware flash-screen first comes up on boot (where you would normally hit f2 to get into the bios). I'd run it and see if you get any errors :)

Why should it be bad to let the battery die and recharge it ? Actually that is the best thing to do

when it dies completely it has to work harder to recharge and over time it does permanent damage to the battery

yup most batteries only have a certain number of times they can be recharged from 0%-100%. So don't constantly do it, but sometimes it needs to be done.

Yeah, I do it once a month, and I know the battery on here is a 300 charge cycle. I'm going to stop having it plugged in and see how it does, hopefully it's fixed.
