So my computer has decided to just randomly shutdown on me twice already.

1st time I ignored it (happened as soon as I opened minecraft to play)
2nd time was as soon as I turned on the laptop

Without warning, the computer just turns off and I cannot turn it back on unless I plug it directly to the power supply.

When I turn on the computer it doesn't even provide an error or anything.

I have the video card mildy O/C'ed but i don't think that has anything to do with it cause I was not even using the video card.

I have the processor O/C'ed but only to like 103.00Mhz

I really cannot begin to think what is wrong with this laptop already. I am going to call alienware tomorrow and keep everyone updated.

Hopefully no one has dealt with this already. If you have, please let me know.

Well, try it without the overclock. Only way you can establish if that's at fault. You might find your M14x just doesn't want to run above stock speeds.

I'd get rid of that CPU OC. What does it matter if you get an extra 20MHz really? I just wouldn't bother with an SB chip if you can't do anything with the multiplier.

Back down off the CPU OC, and see if that helps.

Maybe Steven's unit crashing the same way when trying to play on battery was the same thing as what you're getting.

Yeah, I found that mine won't do any OC beyond 100 MHz lol...well, I only tried 103, 102, 101 before finally settling on 100 (it's at 98-something by default)...but yeah, as Serephucus said - no real point anyway.

Make sure your set your RAM to 1600 if you have a 2630.

ahh, not another random shutdown thread in the alienware forums. Alienware has always been inundated with random shutdowns as far back as when they were still there own company. Its disheartening to hear its still happening. You really dont find this kinda thing in any other brand ala lenovo, acer, apple, samsung, sony, asus has a bit I think but shesh...I guess im kinda a perfectionist when it comes to problems with my laptops like random shutdowns that might not bother others as much, I want redundancy with my laptops, I dont want to have to figure out what I'm going to do tomarrow if my laptop decides it wants to randomly be a pain. I own alienwares, and love there line but arg, its hard to stomach reading already, I could almost feel something like this would happen. Is there no friggin QA(quality control) that tests the machines for random shutdowns before there sent out. Jeez friggin h christ. I used to be on different types of warehouse production lines and everything is always tested before its sent out, do they not do the same?

Gaming on battery is not gonna work because the voltage the battery outputs is not the same as if it were connected directly to the power adapter.

This wasn't the problem on the M11x but then again it wasn't as powerful as this machine.

As for the random shutdowns, I set all the settings in the Bios back to their default values and I'm just gonna proceed with the video card O/C I had to see if the shutdowns still happen.

I had this problem with my m11x r2. After replacing the mobo from Dell it solved the issue. Good luck.

If this only happen when you are using it with the battery, ask for a battery replacement. Period.

There's no reason not to be able to game on maximum performance on battery, the gpu isnt even a mxm gpu, its part of the main motherboard. You can go to power options, change plan settings in high performance setting, then change advanced power settings and in there is options to mess with your gpu performance as well as all the other settings that power plan uses.

You need to read what you type before clicking the Submit button.

Your post is a giant run-on thought that makes no sense. All of those claims are wild ass accusations with no factual basis. Spare us this kind of stuff before you're deemed a troll and restricted from posting in the Alienware forum.

    Class dismissed.

titan, as others have suggested, disable your BIOS OC settings and try again. When OCing, performance/stability is a Your Mileage May Vary situation. Dell will not support OCing results as we've seen in the past (XPS M1710, M1730, AW systems, etc.).

If you still are seeing this consistently after reducing or disabling BIOS OC settings for CPU and Mem, please start a new thread and we'll revisit.

    Thanks!
