Anyone tell me where's the best place to find the best ram for the M14x.
Do I need 2x 4 GB modules for it?
How much should I expect to pay and also is speed a factor?

Depends on how much ram you want :p

I got mine from Newegg, if you want 8gb 1600Mhz, expect to pay around 100 bucks.

Looks like the one...the model number ended with 8GX, though. i have no idea why, but I figure an extra X at the end has got to be better than no X :)

I couldn't say on performance I haven't done anything RAM heavy yet, but i can definitely have more stuff open without any slow-downs :D

I have that RAM showing as being 'shipped' from Newegg. Funny thing is it will arrive WAY before the M14X does. :p

I ordered it on the 14th, but being here in Hawaii means that it won't arrive until the 20th even though it's a supposed 2-day delivery. :p

Does the additional RAM give a noticeable boost in performance?

Not any improvement at all. Actually by default page file setting, windows will now eat up like 15GB space in drive C, could be a nightmare for SSDs :D

I've never seen my computer use even 3gb of RAM, and it rarely goes over 2.
Just for fun, I loaded a saved game in F.E.A.R., joined a server in TrackMania Nations, and I have 5 Chrome tabs and Steam open. I'm using 2.78 gb of RAM right now.

It usually hovers at around 1.3 gb in use when not gaming, and it might go up to 2 while gaming. I strongly encourage you to use your computer for a while and see if you ever run out of RAM before you start upgrading. Most people don't need more than 4GB.

    EDIT:
Just to check, I also loaded a level in Crysis, and I'm still using only 2.87 gb of RAM.

That's FEAR, TrackMania Nations, and Crysis all running, in addition to a few other things, and I still have RAM to spare. And those games are actually in levels, not menus, so there are enemies and other players moving around. Very few people need more than the stock amount of RAM.

What does that even mean? Talk about trolling...

Simple answer: No, you won't see any improvement from third-party RAM. You might see a couple of frames extra, if you're lucky (which given people are aiming for 30FPS+ might not be a bad thing) but more-than-likely you'll only see results in synthetic benchmarks.

My HyperX is only registering at 1333Mhz in CPUI-Z :( I set the BIOS to auto and 1600, but it's always clocking in at about 1328 :( Any ideas?

Im getting the 2720QM, in which I've seen notebooks with the 2720QM and 16gb of RAM. I really doubt I'll get 16gb of RAM but I'm just curious. Please no "you wont use it" or "youre stupid for buying it" comments. I just wanna see if its possible :p

Its about personal choice, if you can afford why not? :D
I got mates bought i7 990x in their desktops, I wont say they are stupid but I cannot really feel a massive difference in gaming :D

According to the Dell's tricky bios/software, there is chance your m14x may not take the rams. Be prepared for troubles, we have got alot with the machine already! ;)
