Hey guys I got my m14xr2 yesterday and I after a couple hours of using it I noticed the r key was slightly out of place..upon inspecting it the whole thing came out in my hands...I quickly looked at a video of how to put keys back in as I have never done so and I successfully put it back in...nothing looked broken on it...however if I press the key closer to the right bottom corner it just pops back out. Highly disturbing....

    Can anyone suggest anything please

Just call DELL and explain the situation.
They will send a tech to you that will exchange the keyboard for a new one :)

One of the three hooks is broken and you'll need a new key. Just call Dell and I'm sure they'll send you a new keyboard.

Hey thanks for the replies....I wonder how much of a problem it will be seeing as I live in Trinidad in the Caribbean and had the laptop shipped here from the states.

try to reason with them on phone/net. Say its a big problem and whatnot. Most probably, if dell is not officially setup in trinidad, they might charge you for shipping it.

My F key came off once, but Dell refused to send a new keyboard because I didn't add the Accidental Damage option to my warranty. Hopefully you'll have better luck than me; like nuaron said, try to inflate the problem somewhat and you might get that new keyboard :)

Since it is one key though can a simple fix be to just buy a new key or do you think it is the entire keyboard that will need changing?

This is from a Dell user in Trinidad:
Looks like Trinidad has the same service as other Western countries :)

I tried finding them online but apparently it's so small & unprofitable that noone bothers to sell them :( . I eventually settled with a full keyboard on ebay for $50.

I strongly urge you to put your case to dell reps. Say its manufacturing defect ; whether accidental warranty or not- its their responsibilty. keys coming off cant be put under accidental damage. i mean with all the typing and mechanical stresses on keys, they should withstand the force not just pop off.

Well I tried an online chat in customer service on dells website and it said they do not provide online chat support for Alienware products, so I called them on the phone and explained the situation to them. They asked where I was from and I said Trinidad and he replied with "thank you for choosing dell, have a nice day" and hung up.

Any suggestions on how to proceed now?

    Just an update,
Microtron systems in Trinidad gave me the proper number to call for Latin America dell and a rep organized to have a tech come with a new keyboard. He said the part is not in the country though and will take about 15 business days but since it is only one key I don't mind the wait.

Hopefully the tech knows what he is doing and this all goes down smoothly.

Thank you very much for the help. It was greatly appreciated.

keyboard replacement is pretty easy and quick. you remove the palmrest panel and unscrew the keyboard. just keep an eye on what he is doing though. its not everyday these guys get thir hands on a m14x. dont let him experiment on your laptop . lulz
